I Have My 6mm Bullet Dies Up and Running

I spent last night getting the core pressure right, and the point up die set. George was kind enough to send me some Sierra Jackets and cores to make a 103 grn. image.jpgimage.jpg

Whats the purpose of the heat gun?

in the air conditioning, the dies have a distinct chill. I just warm the die to around 80 degrees, just to get the chill off.

It might seem a tad anal, but bullet making by it’s very nature tends to be kinda anal.

I do the same thing to get my dies up to temp so the lube will flow. It does make a difference.

This is something i would love to get into to make my own 30cal bullets but the budget doesnt allow for it at the moment . hopefully sometime in the future .

Don't I remember you selling all your bullet making equipment and say "I'll never make bullets again". -----Bill
Bill, I never sold any of it. Up until a month ago, my RCBS presses were still sitting in the same spot as they were on that day I stood up and said......”oh to hell with this. I’m calling Jeff Fowler”.. It was like a time warp.

Now I am making my own 30’s and long range 6mm.

Probably next year I will get George to set me up with a complete 7mm bullet, probably in the 162 to 170 grn range.

Nice...What the ogive number is? And jacket length?
Goerge sent me some 1.140 long Sierra jackets and some cores that would make a 103 grn bullet.

I’m not sure exactly what the 0give is. Somewhere in the 14 to 15 range. I sent George some samples and told him I would count on his judgement. I would guess the BC is in the same range as the 108 Berger Match.

I might be wrong, though. I’m going to make them, and shoot them and not worry too much about it.

I have 2 cases of J-4 1.150 lengths on order, they should show up around October.

Thanks Jack This is exactly what I requested to George. Something similar to Berger 108 BT (dont care about hybrid/VLD)
These bullets are very easy to tune and keep in tune.

On George’s advice, I increased the core seat pressure. I sectioned a bullet and this is how the core fills the jacket.
I think the final size is dead on.image.jpg44DCFD9E-8FFE-4872-BB9B-8744103E702E.jpeg 44DCFD9E-8FFE-4872-BB9B-8744103E702E.jpeg

Jackie,

I will buy your 30 caliber rejects for my 30 BR gas gun. One of these days I will make it down to your neck of the woods to pick up the take off barrel you are donating to the 30BR gas gun.
