New Golden Bear 22BR Project

Been busy with other projects too, so progress has been slow on this, but trying to get this rifle finished before I have surgery, so thought I'd post some pics.of where I'm at.

The stock is an Xring maple and walnut blank we modified...cut off the cheek and fabricated an elevation mechanism. In process of finishing and just got the dye on it last night.

The action is a Golden Bear from Kelbly thats RBLPRE with a Triggertech Diamond set at 4 oz.

The barrel is an ABC HV 7 twist. It will have a Sightron 10-50x on it.

In my spare time necking some old Gold box 6BR brass down to get loaded...@epc308 here motivated me to make my own neck bushings and they came out usable...thanks buddy!

As usual Tom helped out with support on the wood...thanks again sir.

Now get.out there and shoot!! Atleast more than I do. :D

Well, you better bring your A game if you wanna out junk me, hahaha. I can't bear to throw something that's still usable away:rolleyes:

Looking at one of the pictures I see an F clamp in front of the action. did you support the barrel at two points and float the action during bedding?

Actually the barrel is supported the entire length of it's 1.25ish diameter to float the action and ensure it's straight.

So, the stock was milled to a close fit on the barrel, clearance left around the action and pillars, and then the barrel channel opened up after bedding?

Yes a close fit...my router bit is right on size so I actually cut metal for relief now if I have a standard shank 1.25 barrel...I cut the barrel down to 1.200...if that shank diameter is good enough for Mr. Ezell, it's certainly good enough for me:cool:

Ooooo, ahhhhh, lookit the pretty shiny things! Will you knock off the glare from that truck axle barrel, or leave it chrome like in the hope of blinding your range opponents into a foul?
I have some 36 grit sandpaper I'll be happy to send your way.
With a very large, up front deposit, I'll rent you my extree sooper special edition, controllable to a gnats a**, micro motion DeWalt 1/4 sheet palm sander that will allow you to arrive at a sheen of perfect swirls.
You're welcome for the bushing suggestion, but I only gave you the idea. You did the hard work. Glad they finished out to the size range you had hoped for.

Awesome sir! Sweet, sweet swirls,

Once I turn the barrel down a skosh, I'll apply my super-duper-patent-applied-for extra shiney , non reflective finish:D But maybe I should take you up on your super skookum DeWalt jitterbug;)

Well my first question on junk is, "how big is the shop?", and then, "is that the only area that looks like that?"
Reason for asking, I have a 20 x 36 garage, a 16 x 40 open air canopy, and a 12 x 16 cabin that all make your shop look like Martha Stewart just finished cleaning up. Then there's the used equipment staging area outside. Of course compared to some in these parts I'm an amateur, seeing as all of my cars are still road worthy, and there are no appliances on the porch.

A little more color...2-3 more tinted coats of clear with some sanding in there somewhere and we'll hopefully be finished.
