284 Winchester brass

I just received a tid bit of news that Norma is discontinued the production of 284 Winchester brass not good news for the serious wildcat or regular 284 brass user's.:(

serious wildcat or regular 284 brass user's

Serious wildcatters and regular users still have Winchester, Hornady and Quality brass available if this level of quality is sufficient.

Otherwise Peterson brass is making the best quality brass for anyone who chooses to buy the best.

Yes you are correct I like what I'm seeing so far with the Peterson brass I have had great luck with the 6br brass hopefully I will have the same with the 284 Peterson that I have .
P.S. just wanted to give a heads up on the Norma decisions to not make the brass in question after all these year's hat's off to Peterson stepping up to the plate.

I'm still sitting on probably 2000 pieces of new and at least 500 once fired Norma brass that was spec'ed by Shiraz and sold through Bullets.com/Grizzly. Feel free to direct any interested parties to pm me. I prefer to get rid of it in quantities of 500 or more. It will be a really good deal;).

This is 6.5 X 284 brass. Run a 7 mm mandrel through the neck and you have 284 Win brass, and it is Lapua.

Actually if you use a 30 cal. mandrel you have 7.5 X 55 Swiss. This is the parent cartridge for both.

Appreciate the heads up. I've never used it having lapua brass and older WW brass on hand. I may have to order a couple hundred pieces before it's extinct.

Up until a couple of years ago Norma made decent 280AI brass but then stopped. Thankfully Peterson have stepped up to the plate with top quality 284 and now 280AI brass.

After having donut issues with Lapua 6.5-284 necked up to 7mm I moved to Norma and have had all kinds of problems with Norma. In my opinion, W-W brass is the way to go. Of course, I haven't tried Peterson or any other brand.
I remember Jerry Tierny said W-W shot as good as Lapua!

I recently bought some ww 284 brass.Took it out of the bag looked like old brass.Checked it out the neck thickness was too big.Brass was all over on length and weight threw it in the trash where it belongs.Ordered peterson brass

Any W-W rifle brass not in a blue bag a number of years old is complete garbage. If it is old brass in a blue bag it is the best value in the land.

I shoot 284 for F-class. Lapua makes 6.5-284. Easy neck-up. I won't miss Norma exiting. Given the popularity of the round in competition I expect they just decided people weren't buying their brass to compete with and that volume was going elsewhere (Lapua).

I bought 100 Norma cases back when Shiraz Bal something owned an online supply store.
Ended up costing me something on the order of $163 delivered to my door.

Been good so far in a Commercial Mauser action rebarreled with 24" E.R. Shaw 1.5 contour barrel.
Being a SAAMI reaming, i seem to hit the pressure wall at an estimated 56,000 psi. (Hard bolt lift).

Shoots ELDX fairly well. Better with Sierra's offerings, and Nosler 150gr ABLR.

Norma brass always shot well enough but it is/was thinner in the critical primer pocket area. My friend Jim D took the time to explore fully the differences between the several leading brands.

Same photo from another thread showing that the web thickness above the primer is greatest on Peterson.
