Agreed again. The only exception that really comes to mind is neck thickness. It's a pet peeve of mine, people speaking in tenths, taking measurements the hardest way and then stacking measurement tolerances to come up with neck clearance...when the most accurate, easiest and only measurement that really matters is the loaded round diameter.

No, not really...or at least I dont think so. Seems I tried it and it wouldn't work. I'm not where I can check right now but will try to remember to try it when I get to the shop.

I just checked. You could use it in a pinch. Mine runs out of barrel at 1.050 but it'd just be begging for trouble if you were a round out of where you need to be. Like Dusty said, just get the 1-2 for most bbl work.I usually shoot for just at 1.023 PD on a 1-1/16 18tpi

I use my 1" mic on 1 1/16" threads. Mine will go beyond 1.050". With that said the Shars don't cost that much. Just get both if you thread muzzles for brakes and cans. If you don't thread muzzles then get the 1-2"

If a person buys new starretts “choke on the price” is accurate but the shars seem pretty cheap.
 
Iprobably should have read all this post so forgive me if im repeating anything. My findings show a thread shouldn't be any looser than what would pass as a class 2 thread. You can certainly go to loose. To loose not good. a little loose ok and maybe even beneficial thread wires suck, buy a good thread mic, or even invest in some ring gauges. I make all my own ring gauges and verify them with plug gauges up the road at williams machine shop. of course having an action in hand is worth everything in my opinion! Just my thoughts! Lee
