Is LabRadar worth the pice ?

I used a PACT Professional XP for the first time today and it does take a bit to setup especially setting up the tripod when waiting for the range to go safe.
I can see it being much easier with the LabRadar but is it worth the cost of the LabRadar ? Is one any more accurate then the other ?
Yes I think it is the best thing going I’ve been wanting one for years but I use magneto speed which works great so I have not spent the money yet you know how it is in the sport buy once cry once

Here is my 2 cents: I had one of the very first "Shooting Chrony's" when they first came out with cardboard skyscreens. Then I had, for over 20 years, THEE BEST chronograph I ever owned, the ORIGINAL P.A.C.T. Professional. Never a malfunction, durable, shot to shot, time after time, right on the money accurate. Then I got a new P.A.C.T. Professional>>>>worst pile of junk ever created on this planet! Then I got a C.E.D.II M2 which I still have and it is almost as good as the original P.A.C.T.! Now I have a LabRadar. It is VERY easy to set up, however, from time to time, I get readings from day to day that are hard for me to believe.. Maybe I am not "Techno Savvy" enough to know how to "get it right"? I do wish my original P.A.C.T Professional would never have broken.. I believe it was 99.00 bucks at the time of purchase..

My PACT is a processional XP model, how can I tell if its an original or the newer model ?

My comments are in reply #16 in the thread linked to in the reply by rwj

Since buying the LR I haven't considered using either of my other two chrographs

I have both a conventional Chronograph and a Lab Radar. Lab Radar is easy to set up, but has it's quirks. At my home club I have to shoot through a 30 foot long square concrete tunnel and it wrecks havoc on the Lab Radar, where the conventional one works fine. You typically need an optional mike for RF and forget it for shotgun shells. Accuracy wise, I think it is one of the best. So, for me , I need both.

Why the 30 foot tunnel, just curious

I wouldn't buy one but I have the MS, hardly ever use it.
I'm more into hitting my POA rather than how fast the bullet is going. Speed is not always the answer especially if you are after accuracy.
My rifles are hunters, plinkers, or short range BR.

I have owned a conventional chrono, the Magneto speed and now Labradar. They all worked! The Labradar IMHO works better because of setup. You can use it every shot, if you see something on paper you check the labradar do see if something is amiss. It helps to assess the cause of flyers. You can check ES and SD at will every time you shoot. Unlike conventional chronos, you don't have to worry about shooting it. Unlike the Magneto speed there are no complaints of changing POI so load development does not have to be redundant. Yes they cost lots of money, which you are going to spend anyways! Ask me how I know!! LOL

Is $550 for a chronograph worth the value compared to other things that will better help your shooting & scores?
Ben
The question of "worth it" is very much a personal matter, not subject to group think. It depends on how much money you have, and what else you think you need.

I like mine a lot and feel that I got a great value for the money. Prior to purchase, I'd read that the external battery pack was a good idea, so I ordered one with it, and let me tell you, that external pack lasts forever, definitely recommended. One additional thing I'd strongly recommend though, is one of the inertial triggers available for it; there are at least a couple of manufacturers that I'm aware of, and they're inexpensive. On a crowded range, with the brake on your bud's rifle blowing your hair back, it'll practically eliminate reading other shooter's shots.

The main factor in terms of is a $550 chronograph, or any chronograph for that matter, is dependent on how much load development you do.

I explain it to non-shooters as a set-up to run ratio discussion. Once you know the charge ranges, seating depths, and component recipes that are safe, you tend not to need a chronograph in some short range sports. In longer range games, or field target games, you still want to know your velocity stats.

If we set up the discussion at two extremes, it is one thing to operate within one design, versus another to operate several different ones.

If your background is more like the second example where you are exploring load development that is often different than just one cartridge that you already know well, you tend to reach for tools like chronographs and strain gages to help keep track of things efficiently.

In those places where velocity stats are as important as group size, you will want to consider how easy or convenient the chrono set-up and operations will be.

is there a link on the forum to a good reseller of the Lab Radar?

I got mine from brunos. Theyre a site sponsor and a good ambassador of precision shooting sports. Cant imagine life without one. Havent pulled out my 35p in quite a few years now. Using the app on the phone anybody that can get on this forum should be able to use it good

I have been very pleased with it.
I get good readings, rain or shine. Easy set up.
I shoot short range benchrest, so sd's aren't super important, as it is to the long range shooter, but those numbers do tell me about how I'm doing on my overall reloading process.
Get one, you won't regret it!!
