Returning To Smallbore Prone

The Anschutz Concept l in 2XL is still a trifle too small, but useable. It has an interesting trait that I never considered before; that is, it is ideal for a small radius handstop. I’m backwards when it comes to handstops. The large radius one is on my Smallbore rifle (Anschutz Handstop 4751) and the small radius model is on the XTC rifle (similar to the Anschutz Handstop 4752). Recoil in the XTC rifle would sometimes cause the handstop/forearm to pop out of my hand; which isn’t ideal. The Anschutz Concept l completely eliminated that tendency; which is one thing less to worry about.

Gehman XL - blue and white. Anschutz 2XL - black.

now i have used the Gehman before.. what i have now is the Anschutz Top 101.. i saw that Concept glove on Creedmoor.com.. and i have considered trying it.. also like the way the Sauer looks too..

One day I'll try a micro-adjstable sling again to counter mid-detail sag, but that's rather different.[/QUOTE]

Tim,
That is one advantage of the Swing sling. Once you get to about shot 10 in the string, give the turnbuckle a few tightening turns and compensate for the "Sag" in your position. I am sure you have experienced the fact that your position gets just a bit lower as the string progresses. You don't really realize it because it happens so slowly. Adjusting the sling a bit tighter brings the position back up to where you started and now you can keep shooting X's like before :-)

Are there any U.S. retailers handling the AHG 342 Swing Plus; and if so, who are they?

I could not find a US retailer that carried them. Found a company in Canada. That definitely drove the price up as shipping from Canada was much more than US companies. Sorry but it has been awhile since I ordered mine and don't remember who the company was.

So i finally got out and shot the Anschutz at 100 yards yesterday. First i put the target at 50 yards to establish a zero, then moved the target to 100 yards. Then came up with i thought would be the correct elevation for the scope. Yes i was shooting scope, not done with the irons set up yet.
First shot was at 130 made an adjustment and went from there.. the two at 930 were from wind pickups. I was using Center-X 328

Looks good to my eye.

Careful shooting (or just being outdoors for any length of time) in this heatwave. Remember to drink more water than you’d otherwise think you might need.

very nice target!

An excellent target!

The 100 yard range I frequent has two personalities - the far west side is almost an indoor range as the prevailing wind is deflected over the line of fire by the 18 foot berm; meanwhile, the east side can be vicious as the wind descends from the northwest, about the middle of the line, and then swirls off the eastern berm back across the line of fire from east to west. The unfortunates on the east end of the line are faced with mirage moving left to right, and vice versa, (depending on where their spotting scope is focused) and their wind vane showing right to left.

Your target reminds me of being on the east side of the firing line; with two well executed shots that almost became OOPS!

What does the 328 following Center-X mean?

328 meters per second, or 1076 fps.

I used a Monard for about a year, and went back to the Gehmann styled glove. I also used a Sauer Exact III sling, and opted to go back to the old leather Anschutz ones, because of the hole spacing. To each their own I suppose. I would try out all of your old equipment for a few weeks, and what ever is dry rotted, or doesnt fit can get tossed/re-purposed. Spend your money on Ammo, and targets.

Then we can try and talk you & @MarkTrew into coming to the Fairfax Rod & Gun Club's Paul Nordquist Memorial 3200 prone match on Labor Day weekend... Heck, maybe we could even get @pfiori to drive down!

;)

New question - is your "final" tuner tuning performed from position or do you call it "good" from the bench/bipod/sandbags?
