Hard on the ammo supply

Hunted five days in MT a couple weeks ago. Spectacular shooting for four of us. I personally shot 2450 rounds, with one day being a bust. Approx. 600 rounds per day average. Had a hard time keeping the rifles cool with a couple days near 100 degF. Shot 17WSM, 221 Fireball, 20 Vartarg, 204 Ruger, and 6BR. I recorded 1389 hits. Awesome week.

You said you had a hard time keeping the rifles cool. Did you use any sort of cooling system? Good round count per day. What was your minimum to maximum distances?

Keeping them in the shade helps a lot, and use a barrel cool to help speed it up, but with that firing rate and ambient temp, should have a water system. Haven’t adopted that yet. Good excuse to bring many rifles. :D
Shot a couple within a few feet of the bench with the single six.:)
My farthest on this trip was around 470 yds. Landscape wouldn’t allow much more than that.

Single Six, I like that. :) thanks for the information.

The official 'Sham Wow' will help keep barrel temps & mirage down......;)

That’s amazing and sounds like a great time. I’ve been to Argentina a couple of times to shoot doves and want to go again in the future but a hunt like you describe definitely is on the bucket list. I’d have to buy some more guns but what the heck?! Congrats on a great hunt!!

Were you shooting on private, tribal, or combination of all land? Was this a pay to play, or some place you go to regularly? I used to have 5-800 round days out near Mobridge a few years back, but haven't had nearly that much shooting over the last few years with the increased interest by others pounding the dog towns. Once skippy gets educated, the shooting slows down.

Great job. So jealous I am. I have not been out tossing pasture poodles in years but I sure do plan on going next year again. Have a young friend just itching to go so...why not? Aint getting no younger. It would be great to find a place as good as you did. Many years ago I had a honey hole of honey holes. Then the ranch was sold and never got to go back. Oh well. Memories will be there forever.

I would think after 3 or 4 trips you could be ready for a barrel change I’m pretty sure I dont have enough brass to load for a trip like that. But it sure sounds like fun and worth the expense

I usually bring between 400-800 rounds per rifle, per trip. Rotating four or five rifles helps to cool and get some life out of the barrels. But you are correct, my twenties only go about 3000-3500 rounds, or about 3-4 years.
