Vortex Golden Eagle

Heard great things about the SV but the weight is a deal breaker for me unfortunately.......:(.......As for the Golden Eagle, great scope for the money. Good glass (not the best) but mechanically very sound. Tracks perfect and holds POI.

I also have the GE with the ECR reticle. Love the scope. It may not have the glass of some of the very high end scopes but for the money, you cannot beat the quality of the mechanism and as far as I am concerned, the glass is very good as well.

I really liked my GE, but sent it in because the reticle was shifting.
Not a big problem with the GE's but it still can happen to all of them.

SPJ, I feel similar to the way Down South feels. I'll add that I tried the scopes side by side at distance, thru the range of equal magnification and my GVE was clearer than my N.F.BR. 12-42.

Ok so Golden Eagle is on my list.
But what reticle for 1000 BR ??
Also has anyone compared them to Sightron fixed 45x with the ED glass.
Comonman I gotta know....
J

I recently got the Sightron 45 and have several GEs. Shooting at the free targets downloaded from Accurate Shooter, the GE seems to have a bit better resolution at 45X at 100 yards. Playing with the parallax, I can read the Accurate Shooter logo on the paper a bit better with the GE but it's really close. The contrast is about the same. Both are good though.

I'm one of the few unsatisfied with the optical quality of the GE. Vortex repaired it, then replaced it, and still it was worse than the Sightron 8-32 that the GE replaced. Then I got the Sightron ED and all is well. The GE features are great but my vision is an oddball mismatch. Moral of the story, try to look through the scope at shooting conditions before buying.

everyone keeps saying SV.... SVED is a totally different animal.... 60mm. plus ED glass and the superior parallax adjustment it has kept me shooting with my eyes while the March HM sits on the shelf..... jim

Yea, I had a GE. Bought one of the early ones. Had great glass, but had a POI problem. (which took a long time to figure out) Sent it back. Had a new scope in hand in 4 days. BUT...glass on new scope was no where near as good as the first one. Sent it back. They kept it a month and told me it was fine. So I used it most of one season, when it suddenly shifted POI 3 inches at 100 yards. Sent it back (again) they kept it for 6 weeks (notice a trend here?) told me it was fine. My gun now wears a Trijicon.

What are the advantages of a fixed power scope? Which fixed power scope(s) would you purchase for use at 600 yards? I’m shopping for one!
I would not use a fixed power scope for 600 yards. You need to adjust down as low as 18x at times to eliminate severe sun mirage. If you don't have a mirage shield or scope tube on your shooting platform you will need to zoom down a lot as your barrel throws off heat right in front of the optical lens. With a scope tube, I shoot about 90% of the time on 60x but sometimes there is just too much mirage. For me, zooming down to 50x is not nearly as good for aiming, but sometimes you just have to do it. Use a second focal plane scope with a fine reticle so you can aim at various parts of the in the X ring.

You grow to like Vortex optics. Priced attractively, they work attractively.

My GE is not the optical equal of my NF Competition but it is the mechanical equal. Actually, might even be better. Now when it comes to clarity the NF is way better. I can see bullet holes at 600 often with the NF. You can never see them with the GE. The GE is a little less bright so it does not "pop" like the Comp. It is more like the NF BR scope in optical quality and mechanics. That is - good. Just not super.
Great comments my friend. There is a visible difference in clarity between these two however there appears to be NO discernable difference in precision. You will be able to see bullet holes with the NF Comp but you won't be able to shoot a better score. The clarity of the GE is way more than good enough to aim perfectly. I've shot 2" five shot groups at 1000 yards with the GE and maybe I could do better with the NF Comp but I doubt it because I think it's ME that can't shoot better.
