Rebarreled Cooper model 57

Charles if I might ask what are you wanting to do/accomplish with the re-barrel? Is the rifle damaged or lacking in some quality?

Which model do you have? What is your intended use? A high end barrel and probably a long wait on you can get what you want... Any good rimfire smith can do the job... My thoughts are that you have a really quality gun to start modifying and it might actually decrease the value to do a re-barrel.

On the other hand it is your rifle and it most definitely can be done. Ask here for the name of gunsmiths who specialize in that kind of work and you will get some good referrals.

It is a trp 3

There have been several TRP3's rebarreled up here in ME. Brian Voelker was the gunsmith.

Thanks for information, I was told that the action wasnt strong enough and would better off to go another way. I just had a hard time with that. Thinking of a Lilja or Shinlen barrel.

You want to be National Champion or have a really nice accurate rifle? The action may not be the very best choice for a world class BR gun but I bet a good barrel with a knowledgeable gunsmith doing the installation you will have a damned nice and accurate gun. You might be better off going another way but it's not because the action is not strong enough. A Cooper built rifle is Nice!

I don't shoot competitive bench rest so all of this is just my .02.

The actions aren't as robust as the BR actions out there today but Merlin is right, you shouldn't have any concerns of it not being strong enough That's BS.
I've seen several converted to .900 straight barrels such as you desire & they all shoot well.
If that is a concern for you than simply buy a lighter contour barrel.
Merlin's right, they're not going to be competitive in sanctioned br on the National level at the top tier, but it should be as accurate or better than what you have now on the rifle.
I remember from one of you earlier posts that you were experiencing a less accurate rifle & I offered up a couple suggestions. What have you done since that post that you've determined you need a new barrel?

Thanks, I just shoot local matches nothing serious. It is a very nice gun. You are correct about cooper rifles, I own two of them. Just looking for something to play around with.
