Turning a Large Shank Savage barrel into a Small Shank

I have a large shank barrel in 325wsm and since large shank actions are in short supply it seem like. I was wondering if someone could turn it into a small shank barrel.

Thanks!

The minor diameter for a large shank is well above the major for a small shank so it should be possible in that regard. I don't know Savage well enough to know if the tenons are otherwise the same.

It has been done "a bunch" with good results. Not for or by me but it's done.;)

One of the reasons Savage went to large shank was for more strength for larger cartridges. Just a caution. I have had both 260 Rem and
6 BR large shank barrels turned down to small shank with good success. When my smith did the barrels he cut the step from large to small
so it is about 3/32" in front of the barrel nut with the barrel mounted. So it makes a good looking fit.

Could be wrong but I'm guessing the WSM has its own special mag box and follower specifically for the short actions.

It would work.
Get the RUM mag and work on the feed lips.

Lazzeroni did workups on one of their cartridges with the large shank Savage.
Got to 120,000 psi before the chamber permanently deformed.
Did not fail though.
Hence why aside from a Lazzeroni rifle, large shank Savage is only acceptable action according to Lazzeroni.
