Is this a good shooting bench?

For what kind of shooting? Single post will have rigidity challenges compared with a 3 or 4 post design.

Im wanting to shoot Bench rifles off a front rest and rear bag, rimfire at 50yds and long range Varmint rifles at 300-500 yds.

Have you shot off the DOA bench?

I looked at them all and chose the legacy bench. One main reason is i dont want my stool to be hooked to the bench and another reason is hinges move by design so it cant be as sturdy. Check on the legacy benches- do some searching on here- and i think youll love one if you give it a try

No, I haven't. Some things you just can't get around though - the center post creates a teeter-totter. Any shaking or movement by you behind the gun will move the barrel on the other side of the teeter-totter. A design that places a post somewhere under where you lean on the bench keeps the whole bench more stable and less susceptible to your movement.

I think the DOA bench looks like a nice, compact solution for fun shooting. If you're looking for a solid setup to shoot as small as you can, then I'd really look for something with 3 or 4 legs to provide more stability. I ultimately wasn't happy with anything I could find and built my own rather cumbersome shaped bench:

yep, I thought the seat attached to the bench was suboptimal.
I use a 3 leg drummers throne at the range so I’ll use that with the Legacy bench I’ve got coming. Thanks Dusty.

The Legacy is a nice bench - I bet you'll be happy with it. I'm a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to things like this and opt to build my own.

Evan, that’s a very nice bench you built.

The Legacy looks more portable than what I could build.

I’ve got a DOA bench. I’ve had it for about 5 years or more. Things may have changed with them In that time. I rebuild quite a bit of the bench to make it work. The seat swivel was a sloppy mess and also the top swivel had a ton of movement in it and wouldn’t lock up tight. It’s now a good bench I feel. My old coyote jakes steel bench is better.

I went to the DOA website and looked up the site for Legacy benches. I can see the advantages of both, and believe that the DOA maybe better for varmint shooting and the legacy for benchrest shooting. What puzzled me was after I went to the websites to look at the products I immediately got a pop up from both sites that put up a road block that I had to remove before I could look. I know I am not of this generation but doesn't it make sense not to annoy your customers with this kind of crap. I was already looking now you have interfered with my shopping to further push your agenda after I am already trying yo look at your products.

The good thing about the legacy is its top construction. The legs store inside a drawer, the top is thick enough to be stable and strong enough to park a truck on, but has hollow cavities so the whole thing can be carried with one hand easily

That sounds like an ad tracker on your computer- nothing to do with their websites. I bet it would do it if you were looking for coffeemakers too.

Dusty,
Mines similar to the Legacy but it’s not very portable, it’s very heavy! How heavy is the Legacy?

Not good at guessing but it has a built in handle to carry it like a suitcase and i could hold it with 1-2 fingers for a moment not killin myself so im guessing 20-25lbs and that may be high

Thanks buddy!... I may order one that’s wayyyy lighter than mine!... I rarely move mine but at times I want to go some place besides my own range and set up this one would be perfect!

Youll love it. Next best thing to concrete for actual br work. I have shot a railgun off it and its pretty solid

I may be opening myself up to some abuse, but, portable benches are just that, portable, and they will never equal a good stationary bench. When looking at a portable, there is some trade off between portability and stability, generally speaking, the more portable the less stable and vice versa.

I have the DOA and for me it is a very good combination of the two, its pretty solid, and its pretty portable. I looked at portables for a long time, what sold me on the DOA was it is only two pieces, remove the top and fold up the rest, I can do it consistently in under one minute, set up or take down, so far I have liked it.

I got the Legacy Shooting Products bench. It’s way more stable than I expected. With the four adjustable legs there’s a good range of height.
It’s light enough to easily handle and setup.
I give it FIVE Stars!
I used it yesterday to try out a new tuner on my rimfire bench gun. It was plenty stable to evaluate the tuner.
