10mm Carbine

Ok guys I am looking at the line of 10mm carbines do any of you shoot these and what are your experiences with your brand? There are a few in this market and I am leaning towards the CMMG Mk10. I like the 10mm round and a carbine is something my better half could shoot and take to the woods to put down a Hog or two. I am open to all suggestions.

I don’t have any experience with a 10mm but me my brother and father all have 9mm AR rifles. They are a blast to shoot and
Glock mags are Everywhere. The drawback to 10mm I can see is loosing the brass and cost. If you carry yours like I carry mine you’ll loose a lot of brass and 10mm brass isn’t the cheapest. If I wanted the extra thump factor I’d get one in 40 smith. 40 smith in a 10 or 16” barrel packs a punch and is significantly cheaper to shoot. Also your wife may find a 10mm kicks pretty well. The action design lends itself to higher recoil. Just my 2 cents

Look at quarter circle 10 parts/carbines. Dont remember if they make a 10mm, but thats the best quality carbine ive found on the market. I need one in 40 cal just aint done it yet.

I like the 10mm also, and I like the look of the CMMG too, but, it would depend on how many cases you plan on emptying on a regular basis, I'm sure you know 10mm factory loads and reloading components are usually more costly.

Thanks but I reload for the 10mm and wish to stay with the "THUMP" that I can adjust with reloading.

Yes I am set up to reload 10mm so I am there with controlling cost per round. I traded with a fella and and I have 4000 10mm cases (range pick up) so I am off to a good start. All I need is pistol primers to come back around not empty but lower than I like.

I hear what your saying I want to load for the "HAMMER" effect but wish to keep my reloading equipment to a standard and just load different powder and bullets. I did look at the 300 BO but thats not 10mm....LOL

I have a CMMG AR pistol not in 10mm but only in 9mm. It's a lot of fun to shoot, works very well, and takes Glock mags which is a big plus for me. It's my daily carry gun going for my mail.

Yes , I try to keep my stuff standard as I only have 4 years of reloading under my belt.

If you have handguns you might consider Mech Tech Systems. I have an upper for my 1911 and it performs flawlessly. 230's at 1350 fps using N-105 ain't nuthin' to sneeze at...JMHO

CMMG uses a delayed blow back system. I imagine it is patented. They make a 10mm and the upside is that a pistol AR only weighs 5 lbs, 9 oz. I don't see a rifle listed, only pistols and SBR's. CMMG does sell radial blow back parts so you could build your own if you want a rifle.

The real upside to the CMMG Banshee is that the delayed blow back uses a bolt similar to a gas AR bolt and it weighs a LOT less than straight blow back guns. I checked and a 10mm blow back bolt from JSE Surplus weight 14 oz!

I was concerned with the radial bolt release seems like wear point and something to keep an eye on. Looks like a fun shooter and could be loaded to hunt coyotes and pigs with in a very portable package. I wouldnt mind a 10" barrel.

I doubt you would use it enough for wear to cause a problem. The guy in that link describes the system so that I can understand it. I would exchange my 45 acp for one in a second due to the reduction in weight alone. But the heavy blow back bolt I have in my gun makes for a LOT of weight traveling back and forth - which doesn't make for smooth shooting. So far, it is also not reliable enough for me to do anything but play with it. Mine is actually a PSA Glock magazine lower with a PSA blow back pistol upper. If it weren't so much fun suppressed, I would never shoot it.

Plus, I read that SAAMI max operating pressure for the 10mm is 37,500 PSI. That would have to be violent in a straight blow back due to the weight of the bolt.

I have been researching this quite a bit. The option I am leaning towards is Direct Impingement. I really like the build by Macon Armory. He has several videos showing his 10mm builds.

I looked on his webpage before I first posted, but did not see the DI 10mm. I emailed that guy once about a .45 acp back when he was getting up and running. I shied away because of the expense and he was using odd magazines back then. DI would be a nice way to go for sure. I didn't see 16" versions on CMMG's website. Plus it would have to be the strongest option.
