Bc'z rattlecan paint job ?

Oh ! Where were you at? Candy? Where and why.
Clear.
That was my flow coat. The clear I switched to is THICK, I was double coating to get it to lay down due to needing a larger needle nozzle set.
Now I'm going to sand it all down with 800grit, spot in the red candy and reclear.
FWIW I was buffing stock.

Well we are about to learn what to do when I get a major disappointment.
I primed the stock yesterday, it was dry enough to sand today. After sanding I washed the stock with a mixture of Denatured alcohol and water to clean it up. I waited a hour after it was dry then gave it a light coat of black. Pimples appeared immediately on the first area I painted so I gave the whole stock a coat. There ia another small area that pimpled. Now I let dry and then WHAT.

S#it happens I guess.

Well I sanded the blems out with 600 w-d and re primed the stock. I hope to resand the whole stock tomorrow [48 hours] with 600 then re apply the base coat. It should be ready to base coat black at this time? How long after I apply the base coat should I wait to start Marble? What's the wait time between Marble and candy clear, how thick should the coats be, wait time between coats?

TY Don

I'll get with you in a bit, I'm remasking my mistake. And I have another to prep for candy.

Yes you'll be ready to apply the base color.
"DON'T SPRAY HEAVY!" Spray medium coats giving it 10-15minutes between coats. After black is done let it sit for a minimum of 3 hours, overnight would be even better to do marble.
Have Saran wrap tore off in sections that are manageable and a couple smaller pieces to use as patches in case it dosen't wrap all the way around. Give marbalizer at least an hour to dry before spraying candy coats.
Spray medium wet coats. I spray "more" lighter coats, than fewer heavy coats.
Last thing you want to do is run it.
Keep in mind the solvent will penetrate the entire film build, it dosen't just bleed off the top.
Here's a shot of the 1 I'm spraying now.
I'm letting marbalizer flash while I type this.
You can se my saran wrap overlay at the post holding the stock. 20200514_173445.jpg
This thing is gonna be sick!!20200514_173919.jpg

So you wrap completely around the stock at 1 time? I have done a few test areas, to thick of paint is to much, to thin is not enough. :}

Yes you wrap the whole stock but you'll have to do it in sections and have a few patches ready. Set up a clean work table to stage seran wrap on so you can spray it while its laying flat.
My staple is 3' away from where I'm spraying stock.

My next step is marble, How much paint on the saran, a light coat that covers?
I plan on a cure time of a day.
Does the base need a light sanding?

But here’s the real deal, guys.

Our friend BC’z can (and does) walk us through each step of the process. But it’s like a concert pianist showing me everything it takes to play at Carnegie Hall. All I’ll ever muster is a passible version of Chopsticks. It’s not about knowing what paint to use or when to break out the sand paper. BC’z is a master of his craft. An artist, really. The “do it yourself” thing can be an interesting project but it simply isn’t going to result in a gun stock that compares to Brett’s work. And once you add up all the supplies needed to finish a stock, all of a sudden you’ll realize that his work is sold at bargain prices.

I speak from first-hand experience.

@Tommie thanks brother.
He's right I've been screwing up paint work for over 30 years. Just this morning I spent
3 1/2 hours buffing the stock I screwed up.
On average I have 20+ hours into a stock, and for what I charge is peanuts!
I'll leave you with this....15895683504811572403753732785957.jpg

Dont sand your base, unless there's a heavy dirt nib, drag a piece of 800grit 1 direction over it to smooth the nib out.
Your going to spray the marbalizer color wet but not dripping. Let it flash on the seran wrap 10 - 15 seconds before applying to stock. Test it out on a scrap surface 1st.

I’m not painting a stock, but am very intrigued by this thread. There is some great knowledge being generously provided.

Does the Saran Wrap stay on until the paint dries, or is it removed leaving wet paint behind?

The Saran Wrap applies paint in a marble effect when it’s sprayed on the wrap. When marbleizer is applied to the stock, the wrap pulls paint away. It does not stay on until dry. Stays on maybe 10 seconds. The method that you use to apply the wrap creates a very random pattern.

Thanks, I get it now. I had watched videos of people doing the opposite on paper or canvas, painting the surface then applying and removing the Saran Wrap to get the pattern in the wet paint. I was confused but now I think I got it.

It works both ways
