Bc'z rattlecan paint job ?

Let's see the stock.
Look at spray max products for primers and clears.
Some automotive paint jobbers can put what ever color of base coat in a can.
If your local jobber dosen't, mine does and will ship to you, or I can have it done myself and ship to you.
Just last week I shipped a respirator to another member cheaper than Amazon.
I've been wanting to do a how too with spraymax aerosols but have been super busy. My apologies I'm more than willing to walk you through the steps.
thanks Bcz-- I have one I want to paint also so this will be interesting

2-2k primer
2-2k glamour clear
1- black
1- custom mixed 80%coarse white pearl, with 20% fine aluminum
1- laser red tint coat, basically candy.
Ordered through Industrial Finishes.

Slightly off topic question, but related..... I have a stock that I'm wanting to paint, but the rifle and all currently weighs 10# 6oz and can't be over 10.5#. So the question is how much weight will the paint job add to a stock??? Just curious. WD

The only time I've weighed a stock was the Terry Leonard I did for Cory Porter.
1.3oz if I'm not mistaken.

I just asked Brett to mix up some paint and a couple cans of clear for me for a stock I'm doing. Mine is a walnut stock getting just a single color, then clear. I have a few other things I'm doing to this stock first before I paint it, but will take some pics along the way.

Bc'z chose this paint because it has a capsule with hardener in the bottom that you puncture giving it a better quality and a more durable finish like automotive paint. Believe me it's not a cheap paint. The last time I talked to Bc'z I told him that I'm excited but horrified that I might screw up this paint job lol.
I'm still waiting for my new Panda.

Do yourself a favor. Fill a small container with acetone. When your done with each application of primer/paint/clear.. pull the nozzle and drop it in the acetone. When your done with each coat of 2k product, put the remaining in the fridge. It will last a couple days this way. Run it under hot water to bring back up to temp.

Thanks, a good tech tip right there.

I hope to get 3-4 coats of primer on in the next few days. I will post pictures.

The wife kicked me out of the house again today so I got some primer done. I got about 5 coats on, I started with light mist coats then got impatient because it wasn't covering the spots of old gray primer I left on. I used a sanding block and those spots looked like low spots so I left them on. They finally covered well about the 3rd coat. I did get 1 lil run that will sand out just fine. I took a picture that might show it. It didn't take much time between coats to almost dry. Now it looks like a waiting time before I can sand and paint Black. There is a picture of my ''freeair'' paint booth. One thing that I didn't use was a good enough light. I will have one in the future.

Link, that spray max build primer goes on thin. Take your time and let everything gas off. A good 15-20 minutes between coats. It will build. Brett pointed out earlier, it’s ready to sand when the primer on your tape sand to powder. Best to allow a day. I sand with 600 wet/dry but I throw on a Black guide coat first. Use a putty where needed on corner’s and edges that aren’t sharp. Apply another couple coats. Allow to dry. Wet sand with 800. Then paint.

Hntndad she got dry so I hit it again. Not much dry time. Oh well we will see. ;}. You give it a coat of black before sanding? I don't get the putty thing?

Bc'z Why do we sand before painting black? Is it to finish it smooth or to let the black adhere better

TY Don

There’s dry time and then there is “dry”. If it completely powders when sanding, your good. If it pills or balls up, at all, give it more time. The thicker the application, the longer it takes. You want to allow that primer a day to completely gas off before painting. If you still smell the solvents pretty heavy, give it time.

I spray a back “guide coat” before sanding. A light mist of black primer would be fine, it you have any. When you start block sanding, the black will sand off leaving the underlying grey primer behind. Small imperfections will show up black. Otherwise missed if sanding blindly.

Sand with 800 before applying your black base paint for evenness, less texture (finish sanding of clear) ect... what you start with is what you will end up with, so lay it down as you see it.

Got ya but the primer's black. Being the coat after black will be the marble, hiding some imperfections.
