Case filling funnels

Exactly brother...it was satisfying...but if anyone was to ask for one like it, I'd hand them a $20 bill and say "let me tell ya about one I saw online." Hahaha
Ramblerman, I have to agree. I told the plant manager where I used to work all the shop guys should get an extra $5k per year. When he asked why, I told him it was so we could buy ready made products and that he would save far more than that in time and materials. I also told him all the g-jobs we did for ourselves, guys on the floor, supervisors, and HIM, kept our skills sharp and up to date, lol.

Ramblerman, here is my arbor press, just to prove I’m not a one trick pony
That's a really nice press my friend! Love the taper on the handle:cool:.

Sometimes it's awful hard to try and explain economics from the floor to the bosses.o_O Be safe sir!!

Thanks for your kind words. I probably spent over an hour with popsicle sticks, nails, and a calculator figuring out my linkage ratio for it. It was a fun project, and works so smooth with oilight bushings for the plunger to ride in. It pushes those long 107s into my 6BR cases with ease. No, bosses don’t usually understand the economics of the folks in the floor that do the grunt work. You stay safe too.

I use the Xtreme Hardcore Gear Funnels. I have tried the multi funnels and don't care for them. Have a bunch of adapters that can get lost, most are not used.

With the Xtreme, I can choose the caliber I need, not what they want to sell me, it stays in place, has a very smooth finish and drains completely and quickly. I don't see myself using anything else. Buy once, cry once and enjoy. Something I am learning.

I also use, and like, the Hardcore funnels. They are very well made and you can use them to decorate your Christmas tree.

Ramblerman, my 6BR. Why a wood stock? As my rifle stocking instructor said- “Life’s too short to shoot an ugly rifle”. His 6BR, also in a wood stock, shot lights out, so does this one.

That is gorgeous!! Is that from a blank you have been saving? Is that an Atlas repeater?

And I have to agree...life is too short...the warmth of wood is irreplaceable...as much as composites are stable, etc. I'll take a nice piece of wood any day!! (Go ahead guys, insert joke here) hahaha

Thank you. The blank on this rifle was bought specifically for this project after the original choice turned out to have too much moisture content to inlet. It’s black walnut, but was the lightest, easiest piece to work of any I have ever used. Glass and pillar bedding help, but this piece of walnut has turned out to be very stable. It’s a show off rifle for me to let people know what real walnut is capable of in these days of synthetics and laminates.

With some epoxy putty and Redding funnel I made one for . 223. Already had another one so I could use one specially for .223. Could be a little heavier but it works for me.

I decided to make my own funnel with assorted case/caliber inserts. It was a good project to kill a rainy day in the barn. Lexan funnel, aluminum adapters similar to Lyman, but extend down the case shoulder .100. No wiggle, maximum throat so the powder just slides in, even stick type into a .223.

Thank you for your kind words. I wasn’t going to polish the Lexan, but it was in for a penny, in for a pound, what’s another 20 minutes when I was already in so deep? Leftover materials, $3.46 at Westlake for o-rings, and a “couple” of hours in the barn...but they fit each case well. Ran out of 3/4” stock to make one for the 6.5 Grendel. I think I have some 7/8” I can whittle down for that one. May redo the one for .222, .223, .222mag bc I'm too picky. I drilled for the case body on that one instead of boring it so it’s looser than I want, but will work for now.

Wasn't gonna polish it ...sure:rolleyes: Hahaha. Cool stuff!

I guess I am glad you didn’t call so I could have gotten a lesson on turning tapers, I wouldn’t have got the yard mowed again.
I turned a pretty nice taper a few weeks ago, it was unwanted and unintentional, lol.
Cheers on the funnel.
The comments on the lumber on your 6BR, reminded me when we dropped of the 6TCU at Rivers Bend, Jeff had the sticker that said “Chassis rifles have no soul”.

The fancy funnels have never made sense to me. I just don't get the attraction to them.
I do live in South Texas and 50% is our average humidity. Maybe that's why the disconnect. Plastic $3 funnel is good for me. Never spills powder or bridges.

I grabbed the aluminum funnel that only went to 24 caliber for a 22 caliber case one too many times. I’ve spilled my share of powder using any and all with a reverse taper to sit on the case mouth. The wife was sick, so I stayed out of the house to let her rest. Had to have something to do in the barn since it was raining all day.

I cut the taper with the compound, nothing fancy there. I’ve turned those unintentional tapers more than a few times myself.

My 25 year old beater Civic has never seen wax in the 10 years I've owned it, so its not like my stuff shines and gleams, lol. My firearms and associated gear get way better care. This was an extension of that. I figured if I was going to post a picture of the finished project it couldn't hurt to make it look all purty.
