NRA magazines?

I look mine over THEN they hit the trash. American Rifleman?? Not by a long shot anymore. I DON'T do Glocks.:(
I concur Mikie-- They arent what they used to be. Its a shame. Ive saved all mine though so I have 40 some years worth. Some of the later ones im going to get rid of. Thanks

I find nothing useful nor interesting in either one. Most articles are written as advertisement ads. When I was a kid, I couldn't wait for the next issue, now I wouldn't even know if they failed to send next months issue. The staff articles and nothing more than begging for more money and how without more donations they will fail in their mission.
I think youre right Nick. I view many of the articles as advertising to. Thanks

Wife and I both have NRA memberships. We get different magazines. But after reading the Forum Bosses Post I paid up here as well. I get way more info here than I ever get from NRA..
Thanks Zilla-- As a paying member I dont like it when others use the site for nothing and so i appreciate people who pay the same as me.

Hey Boss, not trying to hijack Boz's thread, BUT, there is an old saying that you "MINE WHERE THE GOLD IS"! You got nearly 1700 good paying members, that's your vein. Make it mandatory to be a silver member to sell, offer a life membership to members that have been gold for at least a year and/or who have history. Cull out the tire kickers and concentrate on the paying members. My two cents and MHO... John
thanks for being a paying member

I just opted out of the magazines. I feel guilty just throwing them away. Maybe the printing costs saved will help buy Wayne another mansion.

I'm starting to wonder if the NRA is relevant anymore, either as a service to shooters or as a political organization.

And yeah, this forum crushes any and all magazines when it comes to good content for accurate rifles.
thanks for letting me know about being able to opt out. I may do that to. I think when it comes to technical stuff the NRA isnt relevent anymore. At least not distributing the info to all of us. They are still a force in the politics though and after reading about Canadian gun laws last nite, I feel very fortunate to live here. IMO we still need the NRA for that.

I am a Life Member and the mere sight of Wayne LaPierre's face in Pop-up ads on these websites and in their magazine agitates me the same way as does Hillary Clinton. But we don't have much choice but to stand with them. As for the Am.Rifle Magazine, I'd could enjoy it much more if they converted it exclusively to gun tests and product reviews. If I want to read the history of Samuel Colt or the Gatling Gun, I could find it on the Internet.
+1 ^^ Thanks. I think the NRA sees the magazines as advertisements to the masses. At least American Rifleman.

A few weeks ago everyone was looking for old sears catalogs- so now you have something else to use. I also don't read them like I used to, only the " ARMED CITIZEN " then a very fast look through and then put in a pile and once a year put them on the table at the club.

Hoz53 with 40years worth your out house should be good for generations to come.

Yeah, they're the best we've got and I still support them with some hesitation. But they've been particularly quiet recently, even when needed. It's sad. Perhaps social media has made them less politically relevant. People made noise about Virginia, but the NRA basically tagged along as far as publicity goes. Can't help but think the recent governance turmoil at the NRA has made them less effective. It would do them some good to remember what they're paid to do and not how much they're paid to do it.

theres room for improvement within the organization, thats for sure

I think the American Rifleman has turned into a catalog for a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with the shooting sports. Remember when they portrayed a gun a month with disassembly and reassembly of each with a schematic. I think it is time for new leadership and get some of the board members to start running the NRA as a good grass roots organization again. I miss all the great storys and helpful reloading tips etc. NRA even sold short books aboit the mauser, the 03 springfield and other subjects.I have them all.

Some forty years ago now I bought the NRA publication "Sighting In". It was perfect for someone who knew nothing about trajectories, point blank range, BC, etc with diagrams and very useful tables for common cartridges. I gave several copies to grateful friends and ordered replacements. Even with all our modern reloading manuals and online resources, it's still the best guide to sighting in I've found. Now I can't find a copy for malt or money.

I get one, my wife gets the other. I might spend a minute or two looking at each one before tossing.

I'm an Endowment Life member of the NRA but lately any contributions I send go to SAF, at least Alan Gottlieb is actually working at it. I figure Wayne doesn't need any of my money for suits or apartment rental for hot blonde "interns" (wink wink nudge nudge).

As for memberships I see I let this one slip, I just re-upped my Gold.

Actually they line my guinea pig cage nicely. Some magazines that are worth getting ?

Damming with faint praise, American Rifleman has more information than Shooting Illustrated. Neither one can hold a candle to Accurate Shooter.com.
