Reliable scales for weighing your rifle

I would use my fish scale; but it's calibrated to add a few pounds for each telling of the story.

I bought this shipping scale about 10yrs. ago and it is quite accurate.
When I started shooting 1000 yd. benchrest at Pella, Iowa, this scale
gave me identical weights for my rifles at home as the "range scale".
It checks out with Vapor Trail Valley's scale as well.

I ( or if you know someone that has access) use a refrigeration gas scale. They are designed to weigh in refrigerate gas by the ounce. Very accurate scales and have a zero function. Any HVAC person will have one.

P.S. One thing of note, I was having my gun weighed at a match and made a comment about if the bathroom scale they where using was accurate. I was told that it didn't matter what I weighed my gun with somewhere else, it was what it weighed at the match, regardless the quality of their scale....

Much like my local butcher shop. Every time I go weigh a rifle, it draws a crowd. I did buy a cheap mail scale off Amazon, but I go use certified scales before heading to Nationals.

How did the Amazon scale and certified scale compare to the scale at the nationals ?
I use an electronic scale that I got off Amazon that looks to be pretty accurate but there was a 4 oz. difference with the one at the last nationals. Barely made it.
I believe a few other people had the same problem.

^this is exactly what I have done, although I try to go when it's quiet in the store so as to not cause a ruckas. I also bought a $12 scale on Amazon for comparison.

Mine are close. The amazon scales are 0.03 on the heavy side, so that's ok. The meat market scales and the scales at Raton were the same. Rifle weighed 18.05 both places. That was with scope caps and sun shade so I had a little wiggle room.

So much for standards!
Had not thought about using my refrigerant scale, can measure to .01 pound or in kilograms.

I’m lucky. I have a friend who owns a gun store/feed store/deli. He shut down the deli but the scale is still available for me to use. I would assume scales like this are available to purchase.

I just weight myself on my body weight scale and then weigh myself holding the rifle and calculate the difference. It actually comes out very close to the rifle's weight measured in a more precise way. lol . . . I've done the same thing in figuring out a large package postage when sending Christmas gifts.

In the past I weighed my rifles at the local small town post office.The clerk was a very good dude with a interest in accuracy.
I did not know he retired. I walked in with my rifle . The old lady behind the counter ,looked up and saw the rifle, slammed the window guard down and yelled in a very frantic voice, "I am calling the police right now". I didnt wait to see if they showed up. I bought a cheapo from Harbour Freight. The next time I went into that PO I half expected to see my picture.
