A fun thread, what wildcat do YOU wish was mainstream

I always thought about building a 30 br rifle to make a Nice little new England coyote rifle. 284 Winchester being more mainstream would be Nice. 25 souper would be fun to play with but I have a 257 Roberts to fill that field.

12 Guage from hell! I havent followed the guys progress lately. But last I saw they were blowing out 50bmg brass and getting Some wild fps and energy.

Well I guess mainstream to me means not having to spend a fortune in dies, cause reamers are pretty much all custom and cost close to the same. But $30 dollar dies and $250 dies make one mainstream and the other not. Your YMMV

I wasn't trying to be contentious or argumentative. I've just never used the price of dies as a measure of 'mainstream'. Besides, I also don't buy Lee dies, but that shouldn't count. Without the Lee dies, Hornady is next @$84.00 with Redding topping the list @ $179.00

The .22 BOZ is Patented so it is usually not available commercially or for anyone other than the military and police. I did a very quick search and came up with nothing in dies for the BOZ. So in this regard the .22 BOZ is probably NOT mainstream, being limited by the Patent and the military and police uses.

I would like to see a 22-357 Maximum. With a shoulder in a pbout the same position as a 222, the case would be a ballistic twin and ideal for Contenders and little Martini Cadets...
Several years back, in the land down under someone came up with a rimmed 222 case for use in the bazillion Martini actions that were floating around down there before they went insane and confiscated and destroyed so many guns. It has about the exact same case capacity as the 22/357 Max case, I think Bertram was one or maybe the sole manufacturer(s) of brass for this caliber, 222Rimmed.

How about the Eargasplitten Loudenboomer. I read about this one many years back, I think the story was written by P.O. Ackley. It was a .378 Weatherby case necked down to .22 caliber in an attempt to reach 5000fps with a 50 grain bullet. It's been a long time since I read this, but if I remember right they had wiped out most of the rifling by the 5th round, and they never did reach the magical 5000fps.

How many you want? They do quell their usage pretty severely because of the body armor thing but after the hollywood shootout bank robbery some people have them. Here is a freshly formed case2C6CF4F0-404F-4E2C-ADDA-E6BA6A3CB198.jpeg 23D343FA-5EC6-47BB-8341-D834749A5872.jpeg

I don't need any, but thank you for asking. I merely stated that after a quick search online, I found none for sale. I did not attempt a personal Want Ad searching out any in private hands. I did have a set many years ago but sold them in a fit of stupidity.;)

Kurz , you weren't just a discussion between folks. I got to looking at the 22TCM after 22LR dried up in the last deal where liberals figured they needed guns and bought every thing. The 22TCM looked to me like a hornet made on a modern(223) case. While it is mostly offered in a 1911, a rifle seems like a good way to use the thing to me.

Rock island chisels out a rifle to go with their tcm 1911. Its not really a hornet its more like a pistol case necked down like a short 5.7x28

And what would you like to see it used for? And call it? Hindsight is 20/20 i wish i went to school for gunsmithing and aerospace tolerance machining.

I saw a picture of .22 pokey (25acp necked down to 22) and it got me thinking about neat wildcats I wish existed. Lets hear your ideas.

I wish .22 pokey was a thing for magazine forward Olympic styled target pistols.

9mm necked down to .224 for auto loaders, 55gr fmj for range ammo, vmax or gamekings for self defense. Call it the 224 liberty

10mm necked down to .224 but using 80-90 gr bullets. Yes it would be quite long for the grip, but probably do able. I would like it for long distance handgun target shooting, in custom 1911s or maybe mag forward target pistols. Not sure about a name, but 22 autoturbo sounds pretty 80s cheesy. (I like 80s cheese)

And finally for my contender pistol, a centerfire 224 caliber that is subsonic. 1050 fps with those 90gr 224 bullets would make a sweet windbucking 200 yard paper puncher.

Rifle cartridges? Im not big into rifle cartridges to be honest, but im curious what ideas y'all have.
Hands down would love to be able to walk into ANY gunshop and buy a 338-06 in ANY rifle brand I desired.
I have a custom VZ24 '98 action I built in 338-06, not only is the rifle one of my all-time favourites, but so is the cartridge.
I have other 338 cal rifles too, 338WM (3), 338 EDGE & 338-416RigbyImproved 45°.

Cheers.

I would like to see a Johnson spitfire in a bolt gun or a single action like a Ruger #1 or #3 With a reasonable throat of course. One other side note would be beefier .218 brass to better enjoy my lever and single shot .
To be honest - a bolt gun in M1 Carbine would be a heap of fun = are you listening Howa? Yer Mini Action, with plenty of magazine space? The spitfire would be fun too,.25 or .22.

338 Federal? A mate has one in a Ruger 77, shoots really well and a great hunting cartridge
