6 dasher neck turning

When I made my Dasher brass in 2008, I turned the full neck before hydro forming them to Dasher. Helps prevent donuts. Its a .272 neck, so was a simple skim to clean them up.
I recently bought several gage pins to measure neck diameters. Those Dasher cases have been shot 6+ times, and do not have donuts - a nice fitting gage pin goes all the way into the case body with no resistance at the shoulder/neck junction.

Exactly what I did when using Lapua brass.
I now use Alpha DASHER brass and turn to the shoulder

I can’t bash anyone who turns necks, sorts bullets or even weights primers. Each to their own devices.
However, I turned necks on my FTR 308 for a couple of barrel’s lives. Now all my chambers are no-turn Lapua Blue Box, never looked back.

IF I were doing only a skim turn to clean up for a no-turn chamber or, maybe, even a .269 chamber I would have no issue with doing as you suggest. I can see an opportunity for troubles to arise if one turns that far down onto the shoulder when turning to .010 thickness for the .266 neck. It surely will make that area very thin.

Never had a problem with mine and I turn down to the shoulder on new brass. The line comes right to the center of the shoulder. And I've been shooting the brass for three seasons.

I got DJ to do a box of lapua for me they are very consistent I'm playing with some Alpha brass now and turning them to .013 I also have a .266nk

Timely thread. I just started playing with a .269 neck Dasher. After doing a lot of reading, I decided to turn to .011. This leaves me with a .265 loaded round and .004 clearance. This amount of clearance works fine with my PPC. (011 x 2 + .243=.265). If my hydroformed loads are indicative, this should work fine. I have not formed but 15.

I will likely trim 15 more at .012 and see if there is a noticeable difference. This will leave .002 clearance. I would not be comfortable with any less neck clearance.

My guess is that the only difference will be me having to use a larger neck bushing to get proper neck tension.

If I understand how to figure it, turning to .013 should not be allowing you safe neck clearance. Your loaded round using a .243 bullet would be .269. I don’t see how this would be possible in a .266 neck.
Maybe some of the experts will chime in.

I've turned to 011 and I'm at nearly 20 firings and see no problems

Yeah, I’m getting old. Put one too many zeros in that number. I only trim down from the mouth .250”. I have found that you get a more constant shoulder bump. I try to maintain a loaded neck diameter of about 2 to 2.5 thousands. Keep in mind that not all, very few, 6mm bullets measure.2430. The bullet diameter must be taken on the pressure ring. It will change from manufacturers and lots.

turned it to .050 up from the neck as I explained above.
