homemade shooting sticks?

i have come to the age that i almost have to have something to rest my rifle against, anyone have any good ideas?
i have a saying... i want everything to have two uses... two birds, one stone etc.

i put a rifle rest 'V' on the handle of a ski pole.... removed the 'snow shoe' part... and now i have a 3-for-1:

adjustable walking stick
adjustable monopod shooting stick
snake poker

it is at the hunt place, so no pic available right now....

I've seen hunters in Africa using something like a prop, on You tube, although they have tenders who carry it until needed, also a cord tied around a tree with the barrel put thru it and the rifle then rotated 360 degrees to form a noose around it might work in a tree stand situation.

Be aware that the shooters shown in the link above for the “Buffalo” cross sticks are resting their “barrels” in the “V” of the sticks which can cause a POI shift and accuracy issues.

When I set up stages for a “practical” precision rifle match, I will have a stage where shooters have to rest their barrels on ropes, fences, barricades, etc. to test their knowledge of their rifle’s shift.

I made some out of 3/8" stainless tubing. Drilled a hole through both bolted them together about 6-7" from the top and voila! I also added heat shrink to the top and filled the bottom with silicon to keep dirt out.

I took 2 cedar .5x.75x48", wrapped the top 6" with flat leather. Put a brass bolt thru 6.5" down and cut an angle on both bottom ends to stick in the ground. Good walking stick, then open for shooting. Make them the right length for you.

I've got some DIY aluminum sticks in two lengths for standing and sitting/kneeling, but for prone or sitting when on the prowl for rock chucks, I put this rig together that I call my "Varmint Stake".

Cheap, adjustable, solid/stable. I like it, the chucks hate it.

Some detail in case anyone wants to make one for themselves:

The rifle cradle is padded with soft plastic tubing, motorcycle grip for the handle. Adjustable for height, good for sitting and prone.

(That pic appeared in an article I wrote on the 20VT in Varmint Hunter Mag back when....)

where did you find the parts?

perhaps with the long barreled buffalo guns this is necessary(not always) but with modern sporting rifles this is not necessary at all
