i have come to the age that i almost have to have something to rest my rifle against, anyone have any good ideas?
very nicenot homemade but I use these 48-inch-square-top-buffalo-cross-sticks
i have a saying... i want everything to have two uses... two birds, one stone etc.i have come to the age that i almost have to have something to rest my rifle against, anyone have any good ideas?
I've seen hunters in Africa using something like a prop, on You tube, although they have tenders who carry it until needed, also a cord tied around a tree with the barrel put thru it and the rifle then rotated 360 degrees to form a noose around it might work in a tree stand situation.i have come to the age that i almost have to have something to rest my rifle against, anyone have any good ideas?
Your wife. The extra help dragging game would come in handy, too.![]()
where did you find the parts?I've got some DIY aluminum sticks in two lengths for standing and sitting/kneeling, but for prone or sitting when on the prowl for rock chucks, I put this rig together that I call my "Varmint Stake".
Cheap, adjustable, solid/stable. I like it, the chucks hate it.
(That pic appeared in an article I wrote on the 20VT in Varmint Hunter Mag back when....)
perhaps with the long barreled buffalo guns this is necessary(not always) but with modern sporting rifles this is not necessary at allBe aware that the shooters shown in the link above for the “Buffalo” cross sticks are resting their “barrels” in the “V” of the sticks which can cause a POI shift and accuracy issues.
When I set up stages for a “practical” precision rifle match, I will have a stage where shooters have to rest their barrels on ropes, fences, barricades, etc. to test their knowledge of their rifle’s shift.
