Lube for Bolt Locking Lugs

I also use the red n tacky grease. I have tried several others but the red n tacky seems to do the best job of what I have tried.

White lithium-----not messy--high pressure industrial use.
Black is better but MESSSSSY. Some bearing mfg. do not recommend molybden disulfide(black) as it begins to fill pores in bearings metals and reduce clearance needed for running.

I think they all work at least well if they are on the lugs. Im never satisfied to just do the same thing all the time . I had some 5-20{?} Mobil1 and mixed it into a paste with hBN and put it sparingly on lugs, cocking ramps and rotating contact points on the bolts. It has proven to be really slick even after visual presence wanes. The initial batch was concocted in a 9mm casing and its been applied with a tooth pick to 5 bolt actions and 3 bottom feeding pistols, and I still have most of it left. It doesnt seem to collect lint or dust.
Just a thought, if you have some hBN on hand

I'm with donovan Pro gold on the lugs, then olive oil on the bolt body. Then after shooting wipe off and start again. Oh and I use my action cleaning tool to clean the left over out of the action.

Not trying to rain on anyones own choice, just personal experience of synthetic grease: repeatedly see that it tends to swipe off the lugs and balls up on the side of the bolt. More so then moly-lithium grease, which stays more smeared to the lug surfaces - IME.

Yes and no, but no galling and it sure works better in the cold and SYN. oil is great on the bolt body.... jim

I've found this to be true also. At the end of the day these small companies purchase it from somewhere and often add to it. After years of performance cars, boats and bikes I have found Motorex of Switzerland to be some of the best grease products. Put it between your fingers and separate them and it is stringy, clings to metal and a bitch to get off your hands. Hard use surfaces hold up well.

Mobil 1 for me. I have never experienced any buildup in the bolt. I use a syringe and only place a dab behind the locking lugs

I use Montana extreme it comes in a little container similar to a syringe and just what I picked up at my local gun store don’t know if it’s better or worse than the rest

High moly grease for me. Clean it off after every shoot and start over. I can't remember the name of the stuff I use but it was for special applications on Honda motorcycles if I remember correct. Only came in the little tubes.

Not sure it matters as long as you keep them greased and the grease removed so no dirt and debris builds.

Yes it matters I had lugs gall up with Lucas red grease .... and I remove it and clean it out every relay and reapply every relay.... jim

I use grease in those little containers used by the army etc in wwII and Korea along with Vietnam. They were in the cleaning kits. My cousin bout a load of them for next to nothing and I only have a few left. It works great. I also use the old Rig stainless steel grease which works on everything.
