6mm GT or 6.5X47L

So, I am getting ready to barrel up a Remington 700 action that I had LRI do a Remage truing on. It has a .223 bolt face and I plan on getting a 6X45 barrel to put on it. But, because it will be a Remage set-up and because I got a good deal on a bolt with a .473" bolt-face, I am thinking I want something that I can poke out a bit further with. I want to stay "small" caliber as this will also be the gun that I hand to the wife and nephews when we head out for deer, hogs, and yotes. I am not going to be doing any benchrest matches. I just like the idea of a low recoil round that is "inherently accurate" and will feed reliably from a standard .308 family magazine.

So, with that in mind, would you go with a 6mm GT or a 6.5X47L?

If I was in your shoes and those two cartridges were my choices to choose from, I'd go 6mm GT. Simply because I'm a 6mm guy and I also like what I've read about that cartridge.

If that is a 223 action, you won't be able to feed .473" cartridges out of the mag due to the feed rails being too narrow.

What about a 6 Creed? Super accurate, super flat shooting and with Lapua S/R primer brass, the brass will last a long time!

If everything they say shakes out then the 6GT is in my future. It uses 20%-25% less powder than 6mm Creedmoor/243 Win. The more efficient case design of the 6GT allows it to achieve same velocity of 6mm Creedmoor/243 Win while using the same bullets. It will also feed properly out of a standard AI magazine. The Frosting is that as result of less powder, the barrel life is extended from 1500 to 2500 rounds. With it being new cartridge, the only downside is sourcing brass. I believe Alpha is making brass, but you can also form it relatively easily from 6.5x47 Lapua.

I am eagerly sitting on the edge of the pool...

Don’t drink that Kool Aid quite yet. A cartridge isn’t going to run with others that are 25% larger simply due to a magic case design. Achieving similar velocity to a .243 will require higher pressures...and there goes your barrel life (not to mention brass life).

Thanks for the input, gents. I am looking to see if I can get the feed lips issue that alf brought up sorted out.
As for the Creedmoor, I don't have anything against it, but I just don't want one. Mainstream chamberings do nothing for me. My current favorite rifle is a 7-08AI. My second is a 7TCU Contender. My favorite AR is a 6X45. I have a sickness that "common" rifle chamberings cannot cure!

Agreed - That is why I am sitting and waiting for some others to jump in and do some practical testing to prove/disprove the marketing materials. I hope it all turns out to be true.

If I was to pick between the two for 1000yd, it would be the 6.5X47lapua.
the number for a 6 dasher and 6.5x47 are nearly identical out to 1k. A slight drop advantage to the dasher and a wind advantage for the 6.5x47. One thing to look at is the price difference between 6mm bullets and 6.5mm bullets. 6 dasher will have less recoil. I used to have a 6mm br and it was one heck of a shooter. You wouldnt think that small case would be capable of what it can do...its very impressive. I was running 95gr. bergers at 3030fps with 31 grains of powder, that was max load in my rifle. A if you want to wildcat I would lean towards a 6x47 lapua for the simple fact there is no fire forming vs. the 6 dasher.
