Source for really nice walnut blank?

Hi all. I just got in line with Jim Borden for a barreled action to build a BR light gun. I usually carve my stocks from laminate cause it's affordable and I like the bright cheerful colors for my bench guns, but I always yearn for the really pretty walnut. I want to go that route this time. Does anyone know of a good place to source a AAA or exhibition grade blank of walnut from?

Not a good picture but this will give you an idea. The next move is to find a stock maker/ gunsmith.

Thanks! Cecil has quite the warehouse. I watched the youtube video on his frontpage and am a bit intimidated by that. If I'm serious about this, then it looks like I need to buy a plane ticket!

I carve my own stocks. One thought I'm having is that maybe I get two "mother-in-law" blanks and laminate them together so the ugly is in the center and I have the width for a 3" forearm.

Make sure if you go to see Cecil, that he shows you the room with all the animal mounts! You will be stunned! There has to be more than 1 million dollars in taxidermy in that room! Every game animal on the African Continent! A Sheep Grand Slam full body mount.

I don't think I can afford a blank of this kind of quality. But man do I love a case-colored falling block done up like this. Maybe one day I'll be so rich that something like this could come into my possession!

Luxus walnut in Kentucky. Their website has good pictures and you can pick your poison. Some of the Turkish walnut is unbelievable!

You will be hard pressed to find a blank thick enough for a wide forearm and will probably need to laminate. Picking purdy blanks out is hard. You will want more than one and it will lead to building lots of guns you didn't think you needed.

Yeah, I'm already feeling a bit overwhelmed and thinking about how easy it is to pick up the phone and order a bright and cheerful laminate blank for 100 bucks. But I always see pictures of really pretty walnut and want one of my own.

Wow! Though I'm not sure I'd want to own something like that. It'd make everything else I own look like dudu! EVERYTHING!!! Mike

You'll think I'm nuts but I have been to the Richards Microfit shop and their supply of walnut blanks is impressive. They don't sell many as most seem to want laminate but it might be worth a call to get some pics and see what they have.

He has the best selection in the country. He is in Los Vegas and has a huge warehouse and cuts and drys wood from all over the world.
There is a video of him and his business on utube.
