Keep that trigger assembly clean

True story, totally bizarre dream last night ... (I spent a while yesterday loading the truck up for a range session)....I dreamed I was shooting my rifles and for some reason the residue was super gritty and the trigger even stopped working.

Not making this up...

According to the Jewel Trigger Manual , they instruct users to flush the trigger assembly with ( any ) lighter fluid , to wash out the mechanism at every cleaning of the rifle . Got two cans of Ronsonol on my bench . No reason to re-invent the wheel . Just follow the mfg. instructions ...DUH !

Flush out with Charcoal lighter fluid for Jewell triggers , leaves a very very light lubricant .
Charcoal lighter fluid doesn't leave lubricant behind! Tonight I ran an experiment: I cleaned an inch-square portion a plate of glass lying on my bench squeaky clean using Gun Scrubber and paper towel. Then I poured a small puddle of Kingsford charcoal lighter fluid on that spot and let it evaporate for a few hours. With a desk lamp reflecting off the glass, I could not see any residue or film remaining. Then I took a fresh strip of Scotch Magic Tape and stuck it firmly where the lighter fluid had evaporated, rubbing it down and letting it "seat" for a minute. I then grasped one end of the tape strip and peeled it off. It took the same force to peel from the glass as when I subsequently ran the same tape test on glass cleaned only with Gun Scrubber. If there was the faintest "film" of lubricant on that glass, the tape simply would not stick nearly as well if at all. Looking at it another way: Any film of lubricant slight enough not to affect the tape would also be too slight to provide any lubricating effect on a trigger.

From Jewell...It is obvious they do not not claim lighter fluid as a "Lubricant" .

Cleaning: Flush after each barrel cleaning with lighter fluid. The use of lubricants is not recommended.

Has anyone used brake parts cleaner to clean a trigger? Seems it would blast out all the dirt and oil.

I clean my competition rifles every 100-150 rounds. Custom bore guide and nothing should get to the trigger. That said as part of my routine I brakelean the trigger from the topside through the action with each cleaning. I dont go crazy with it but a quick spray down every time.

I also moly grease my lugs and the camming area on my bolt and wax the outside of the bolt body between shoots. This can and does get into a trigger. I don't need a failure and/or match DQ due to poor cleaning habits.

Some triggers have plastic parts in them so break cleaner would raise hell. If you know all parts are not plastic or rubber the go with the break cleaner. I like to use starting fluid for the same reason but it does not seem to melt rubber and plastic parts. Dries completely in seconds and leaves nothing behind.
Just use a spray polymer safe gun cleaner. It cleans well and won't attack plastic and and most finishes.

That may have some buildup and dirt retention issues.
I believe you I had powder drop in the action shortly after it would not cock that was what I had at the range I only did It several times the one day and haven’t used it since but had no issues

In a pinch what gets you through the day is the answer. A long term solution is different.
