Remington and Weaver

I have been trying to get some pricing and info on a Weaver Grand Slam 2-8x36 for a rifle I own. Just got off the phone with a dealer who rang the distributor for me and he was told by the distributor that Weaver aren't making scopes at the moment because they are tied up with Remington somehow and Remington is either going broke or pretty shaky are are possibly being bought by Ruger.

Can anyone over there confirm, deny or debunk this? Is the Australian distributor just talking shit? Or could there be some truth?

It seems all the Weaver stock here is is being sold off at discounted prices. They are not taking anything back for repair either. If you need to send something back, they will have you send it to Bushnell. Bushnell doesn't attempt a repair and instead will send you one of their scopes of equal value.

I have heard rumbles that Nikon is getting out of the rifle scope business too.

I don't know anything about the Remington connection.

Weaver scopes haven’t been produced for quite some time. Natchez bought most of the remaining inventory and sold it off cheap. ATK still owns Weaver and I’m hoping they’ll do something similar to their divestiture of Savage.

The old Weaver plant in El Paso stopped making scopes years ago, my friends dad worked there. There was someone that fixed the old school Weavers but I don't remember who that was. Don't know about any of the newer ones.

Sorry to disagree with some of these posts, however ATK does not own Weaver, it is currently owned by Vista Outdoors! Since Vista outdoors took over they have done the following, discontinued the brand name of weaver scopes, and shutdown weaver customer service and repairs. If you have a weaver scope that has a needed repair and you send it in, it will go to Bushnell service that will notify you that it is not repairable. They will notify you that they are sending you a replacement Bushnell scope of equivalent value! You usually don’t receive this notice until your new Bushnell is already in the mail.
This I am sure is not what you all want to hear, and I was not happy when they did it to me. I promptly sent an email to the CEO of Vista Outdoors, and was completely surprised when I received a call from the #2 guy at Vista, offered his apologies, and asked me if I wanted my scope back as he had it sitting on his desk, I said yes, what would you like me to do with this Bushnell Forge 5x27 you sent me, he said just keep it.
On a side note Nikon did announce last year the are getting out of the scope business so that’s another brand gone. When the Weavers that Natchez bought up are gone there won’t be any more.
If your curios about Vista Outdoors look them up, I am sure you be surprised at how many name brands in sporting goods they own.

Good luck I think I will be buying a NightForce very soon!

That would be Optical Services Company in Santa Teresa NM. Bill Ackerman, his daughter Sheryl runs the shop now.

I do stand corrected. ATK spun off the sporting goods products and formed Vista Outdoors in 2015.

I sent a Weaver to Bushnell for repair . They repaired it and sent it back. Where did you get your info ?

I'm a big fan of the higher end bushnells and also a big fan of the higher end weavers. Two companies under the same umbrella importing from the same factories overseas.... seems natural that only one continues on in the corporate market.

I have to say the Bushnell high end scope they sent me was a really nice scope.
Rock solid, clear glass, and I loved the lift adjust and push down lockable turrets. However the reticle was useless for BR shooting.

This was 3 months ago, and if you read my post, I actually had a conversation with the #2 guy at Vista Outdoors! How long ago did you send your scope back. Your out come may differ but I am telling you if they don’t want to fix it you will get a bushnell as a replacement!
