30BR Repeater in 700SA Footprint

Thinking about putting together a lightweight, short(ish) barrel, suppressed ranch stalking/ fun rifle in 30BR. Has anyone done this in a 700 footprint action? I have a AG Comp stock I could use that's inletted for the 700 with PTG/ Stocky's "Stealth" AICS pattern bottom metal. Also have several mags. Would it work? Would I need the Primal Rights magazine kits? Could I get away with the sloppy firing pin clearance in a Remington action? Don't want to break the bank and there are some SS R700s in the classifieds for $355. Then again, I don't want to be penny wise and dollar foolish. What says you, almighty membership?

At the least you will want a sako extractor and firing pin bushed. Ejection will be spotty with the factory extractor in most actions. You will pierce primers at the pressures you want to run with the stock firing pin. Since its for hunting Id prefer a bdl set up any how. The Borden ss6 is available with a bdl box. Wyatts used to make a br box for the 700 but there was not enough demand and he stopped. Wish I grabbed a few.

I’d build that on a Borden Super Short Six. But that’s not as economical as other options like a 700 SA with spaced magazines.

30 BR would be a fine whitetail round. Keep us appraised how this pr,oject goes. While I am at it I am very happy with purchases from you, thanks for good products.

Love me some Borden actions. Considered the Super Short Six - definitely not the budget option, but maybe I'll just start stashing funds away and build it in 2021. I want to stick with the AICS mags in case I do some hog exterminating with it. Just last weekend I encountered over 20 of those bastards at about 120 yards. All I had was a 300 BLK with a red dot and nothing to support myself against. Opportunity lost.

Sometimes economy is not in savings but in total lifetime cost. Maybe a .332 neck, use some of your old 6BR brass to start with and all kinds of Bergers for those pigs.

Now you have me thinking (that is dangerous) I have a brand new in the box McMillian A-5 and the sounds of a Borden or BAT repeater in that thing for a hunting rig would be awesome!!! I've tried to sell the stock but everyone wants to give half price and yet go buy a used one for $50 less, sorry just thinking out loud! But a custom hunting rig sounds good, but that would mean I'd have to go hunting again, sheez, maybe a long range gun? Heck, it may be an heirloom LOL

I have a Borden Mountaineer - Right Bolt, AICS mag fed, left load port, right eject. Now that I put the trigger that Jim timed it to in it (like I should have at first), it's the smoothest action I own. Better than my BRMXD even. Highly recommend it.

You’ll love the BRMXD. Smoother probably wasn’t the best word choice. My Mountaineer is timed as dead neutral as I can imagine. My BRMXD has very slight de-cock on close. They are both excellent, however.
Thanks! I go down to my basement where I have a reloading room and just work that action and pull that Bixn Andy

Everything went to the smith yesterday...
  • Atlas Tactical with the never fail short throw bolt stop - this came early
  • AG Composites Sportsman
  • PTG/ Stocky's "Stealth" BTM Metal
  • AICS w/ Primal Rights
  • TiggerTech Special
  • Lilja 3gr 17tw #5 - Will finish to 16.1" - thanks @Hoodoo
  • Gemtech Tracker shouldn't be too far out
  • @P1ZombieKiller working on my brass
  • Got 500 125 SSTs yesterday and have a few hundred Sierra 110s and Speer TNTs on hand
Goal is to get it under 10# with 5 rounds, suppressor & optic. So...Now I need to start thinking optics. I'm thinking a nice SFP 1-6. This is going to be a walking around/ hunting/ targets of opportunity rifle. If it ever took a shot at over 400 yards, I'd be surprised. Good glass, rugged, light weight, capped turrets. What's available? Kahles 16i? More than I want to spend, but possibly worth it??? I have a Viper PST 1-4 that I can toss on there in the short term, but it deserves better than that eventually.

Building stuff you don't need is fun. I'm excited about this one!

Billy Stevens built what was my young grandson, at the time, 19 years ago at 30BR on a mod 7 and a Shilen #1 contour 15 twist barrel. It has a 'pounder Brown Precision stock and a Jewell trigger. I put a Zeiss 3x9 scope on it. I did the Mike Bryant mag mod. He has always used 125gr. Ballistic Tips. He has killed at least 30 deer and hogs with it to 250yds. All were 1 shot kills. The only 2 shot kill was the most fun. He shot a coyote and when Josh strolled up to it, it blew up a storm. We both filled our drawers. He finished it off. He loves shooting my big bores, but will not let me rebarrel his mod 7 in a larger caliber.

That thing is awesome! Just fyi, I've never shoot a 30 br, but my 6br runs flawless out of a pmag. Cheaper than the kits and no issues on my end with a stiller predator. Keep us posted, you're making me want to build one!!!!
