Its really winter now!

You’re right. I do miss a nice snow fall. Waking up and seeing a couple feet of fresh powder. Thinking school would be closed and I could play all day......
Now, it’s 6 hours of hard work and a wife with cabin fever!
Anybody wanna buy a couple nice snowblowers?:):D
Hey if you are inclined, post some pix of your part of the world. I have not been "here" much...big change for you! TX and all, y'all. School, 6 hrs hard work ? :)

Hey! I was thinking back to when I was a kid. A big snow closed the schools. As an older adult with a long driveway, a big snow is just a pain in the butt. Since my move, that’s all in the past!!! Today in Kerrville it was a frigid 65 degrees. Tomorrow is expected to be a sunny 72. I have a few pics:

joshb, three very good reasons to give up on landscaping. Think of it as already landscape by nature. On a side note, my neighbor here in San Tone told me that big acorns were still dropping during late December and all the deer were still feeding on them and ignoring the corn feeders. Claimed it was the worst year in a long time for hunting big bucks (nocturnal) but the two does he harvested were in great condition. They hunt just northwest of Comfort.

My favorite time of year for shooting at home ,sit next to the woodstove drinking coffee while loading at the bench...go out back and shoot as long as I can feel my fingers . I keep the 100 yard target trail cleaned best I can ,distance in the back field depends how energetic I feel when the snow gets deep... gets me through these long winters , good for the mind .

If that is your back yard it looks awesome to me.
I only wish I’d moved here ten years ago. I’ve had a few people tell me: “If it snows, get your camera and take a picture ‘cause it’ll be gone by noon.”
You should think about coming down. Lot’s of nice houses for sale in the area. $3-400k will get you a nice house on 5 acres.
Weather update: 75 today, 72 tomorrow.

Riesel: The deer here are looking a little thin by my standards. I’m inside 312 high fenced acres. There are a lot of deer and exotics. I wonder if there’s enough natural food around to sustain them all. I put out 150 pounds of feed a week and more keep coming. I counted 60 animals one time. I’m a sucker for those big brown eyes staring at me.

Josh, Your place looks real nice. Would love to move to Texas but the wife and I can't handle the summer heat. Spent too much of my life near the West Coast. Amazing what you can get for the money down there.
Have you gotten your shop setup yet?
One of my goals in our final home, will be to have a separate shop so that I can work any time the notion hits me without disturbing the boss lady. Had enough of trying to do that in the attached garage.

I’m not set up yet. It’s funny you mentioned. I’m trying a new thing. I’m stuck in the garage for now. It has a 30x12 separate room at the back. I bought an old steel desk at the Salvation Army and some shelf units at Home Depot. That’s as far as I’ve gotten. All the machines have roller bases so I can pull them out when needed. Maybe next year I’ll build an actual shop. Right now, the wifey wants a bathroom addition for her bathtub. She doesn’t like showers soo......she’s cracking the whip!
I have to quote the old line: “..but it’s a dry heat”:p I will say that 105 down here feels better than 90 in Delaware. The 90% humidity is what gets me. Your sweat just lays on your skin.:(

Dry heat, ya when we lived in California use to hear that a lot. But to me, hot is hot. Our average during the summer was 85-95 with a couple of weeks in the 105-120 range. Spent a fortune on AC. Can't sleep when it is hot.

I hear you when it comes to humidity. I lived in St Croix for several years on a job, that heat and humidity was far worse. Didn't help that I was working in a power plant rebuilding two large industrial diesels that drove generators with two steam turbines running right next to us. I was in my 20's back then, pretty good shape lifting weights, went there at 235lb, left at 155lb.
Did no good to try and dry off from the shower.

I was out at the storage unit the other day. Kills me to see all my tools sitting there. Including my new to me engine lathe. Have it coated in oil to protect it as best that I can. Luckily, the floor is heated to keep the moisture down. Not too much longer now, about 2.5 years or maybe less.

Get the wife a pair of noise cancelling bluetooth headphones. My wife uses the Bose brand. She watches her shows using the headphones and can’t hear a peep from me. Only knows I’m around if I walk in front of the TV. LOL. She even watches her shows on the iPad wearing the headphones while making sammiches and/or dinner. Can’t hear the banging pans so she doesn’t miss out on any dialog.

She has a pair of the Bose noise cancelling headphones. The trouble is she stays up late and sleeps late, I on the other hand, go to bed early and get up early. Headphones won't help with that and I don't want to have to wait to play. Separate shop is the best option for me at least.

Josh, I would be willing to move to Texas in a flash anytime during our wretched winters, but as soon as spring comes and I see those mega thunderstorms that you live with:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:,........egads, I want to run and hide under the bed even though they are over 2000 miles away.:D
I will probably just stay here and shovel snow.:(
