Last year I bought a 1903 sporter project rifle that had a R.F. Sedgley barrel on it. I pulled the barrel and had a brand new CBI installed. Not going to use the Sedgley barrel, so I thought I'd sell it. Well, finding just a barrel to compare prices has been tough. Any other barrel it would be a tomato stake, but Sedgley stuff is pretty hard to come by.

24" sporter barrel, 1903 springfield, 30-06. Has Marble front sight, dovetail for blade is a little loose could be peened to tighten up. Finish shows considerable case wear above the wood line and I'd rate it at 50%. No real damage or putting, but a sanding and hot blue should make it a real nice looking barrel.

Chamber and bore has no pitting I could see, rifling looks ok, was extremely dirty. I scrubbed it and ran about 20 patches through it. Sized brass drops right in, fired brass from a new chamber is a little snug and doesnt fit as deep, which leads me to believe this does not have an excessively large chamber.

Is there an 'S' inside either an oval or circle stamped on the breech end OD of the barrel? If so, the barrel was made by Sedgely. Otherwise, it's a military barrel that was just stamped when the rifle was sporterized. Sedgely stuff is very collectible, so I would start high and reduce my price as needed until it sold - say $250 to start.

Yes, it's a legit R.F. Sedgley barrel. Good examples of complete rifles go for typically $3-4K from what I have seen, and don't generally stay for sale long. Before the barrel was pulled in had the headspace checked on my receiver and it was good.

Should look up the RF Sedgley 1903 rifles. Pretty neat guns with high collectable value. Sadly, I ended up with only a barrel on a 1903 someone tried to turn into a A3, then drilled for scope bases too. So, it got a new CBI and will be a nice sporter when it's done.

Front sight look exactly like my Pacific front sight on my 1898 Krag that has been sporterized. Wondering if they eventually became the same company.

Marble sights have been used on many guns for many years and is still in business. Pacific gun sights is the same Pacific that patented the first C frame reloading press, and that Hornady bought not too far back. Sedgley died in 1938, along with the company from my understanding.

Square thread was common on rifles of this era, the 1917 has a square thread as well.

Well, Iisted the barrel on evilbay with a $100 start, hoping for the best, but wont be sad if it goes for the opening bid price. Thanks for the advice. I did manage to finally find a completed sale online for $192, so valuation was right in the ball park.
