Does anyone know of a scope base brand that will fit an A1 action
that will let me use a Burris Signature ring ???
I believe the A1, the 461 and the 491 are all the same action,
just numbered differently. Thanks in advance . LDS

Contact Euro Optic, you have several options. One Sako rings or Aftermarket Picatinny Rail.

You should be able to buy Weaver bases that mount to the Sako dovetail & will allow you to use the Burris Weaver style Signature style rings.

Speaking of the set screws, is inertia or a wood mallet enough to secure the mounts? I have a set of leupold ringmounts that have a side "pinch" if I recall. And I know this is a fairly old thread. No reason to start another one. I agree on not using set screws. I bought an L461 in 222 Mag. It is a shooter and not a museum piece. The prior owner used a set screw on top, or side of the dovetail. I don't remember. And some red locktite. It was a real sob to get the receiver cleaned up. There is a small mark where the screw was driven on to the top of the dovetail. Shoot, I think there is a mark on top AND side of the dovetail! I put a set of Luepold ringmonts on and it seems to be holding pretty tight. I do like the old style redfield bases. I think there are some that do not even have a set screw?

I reread the post, it concerns using a conventional base in order to use the burris signture rings. This is a good excercise for me, because I also need to find some pict. bases that will fit on the dovetail. They are out there, but are pretty expensive.

When using a base that has set screws to keep from marring the dovetail put a piece of lead shot under the screw.
