22lr throat

I had a barrel chambered for a tikka T1 22lr. My Smith used a 52d reamer. With sk standard it's way too short. There is about an 1/8" of engraving on the rifling and i have to crank the bolt handle down way too hard in my opinion compared to anschutzs, win 52s, savages, etc.
I am leaning toward having him just cut it to the length of an anschutz(.037" longer). Any suggestions?

if you shoot mainly Lapua and SK I suggest he re-chamber it using the JGS Nevius reamer, it has .030 engraving off the ogive.

Not uncommon, I chamber with 50% engraving.

I agree with Lee, if your mostly going to use SK or Lapua ammo I’d go with the Nevius chamber. It feels to me with a longer leade angle like 1 degree it takes more pressure to push the bullet into the rifling. With the Anschutz chamber you still might not get what your looking for. Another thing is that none of my 22 rimfire reamers have a rim cutter. That allows me to cut a chamber to engrave the bullet as much or little as I prefer.

Also if you have any flat nose Eley (Tenex,Match,Team) give it a try. It might feel a hair better when closing the bolt.

Thanks guys. my plan was to keep with the sk mostly because i have a couple cases of it and smallbore is more to keep my skills up for highpower and not to compete. The 52d reamer seems to have more room for the case than the anschutz but i think the chamber depth should prob be somewhere between the 2. Reading some of Kevin Nevius's thoughts online about engraving depth on the bullet, etc i definitely think I need to have the chamber cut a little deeper.
I would like to use this rifle for shooting our smallbore 4-P postal league and also to practice for XTC highpower. I dont plan to shoot benchrest but I don't think I want the chamber as sloppy as a factory chamber either. So, I will probably have the chamber cut a little deeper to get somewhere near what the Nevius or anschutz depth would be, but not quite what a match semi-auto might be. I would still prefer to be able to use it as a repeater, if that makes sense.
