No Hunting within 1000 yards of a residence!

View attachment 1150406
That came through my Mother in Laws window last week! It’s obviously a ricochet. It had just enough velocity left to go through a screen and a double pane window and land on the floor. Incidents like this don’t help.

That likely, though probably a "hunting" bullet, wasn't likely fired during a hunt. Still makes no difference. Shooters have to always be aware of their surroundings. Realize that paper plate isn't a good bullet stop.

While I agree that hunting too closely to residencies is a dangerous situation, it is not always the fault of the hunting community. I used to hunt on a farm owned by a close friend. It is over 500 acres. It was in a farming community. Then developers bought a few of the surrounding farms and built housing. I sincerely doubt these builders told the lot buyers that they were building in areas were most of the residents were active hunters and shooters.

My friend had a shooting range on one edge of his property and we spent many hours there enjoying ourselves. As soon as the first house was occupied, the complaints started coming in. During hunting season, every time a shot was fired, the local police showed up, made a report, which required they talk to the hunters, and then had to go and talk to the complainant. While we were allowed to continue the hunt, the delay and extra activity usually ruined the prospects of bagging any game.

Then there was the range activity. During the summer months, we would gather there and shoot, eat and drink a few beers after the shooting finished. Every time we met there, we saw the police. We started to provide extra hamburgers and hot dogs, knowing they would be there.

I realize that living next to a farm where folks are doing a lot of shooting can be disconcerting to none shooters, especially when four or five guys are continuously sending bullets downrange, it is they who decided to move to the country. This has become a never ending problem with no satisfactory solution.

don't tell me you took a shot at your mother in law :D

If Bart missed a shot at his mother-in-law, we can be sure that she was farther away than 600 yards. ;)

Always - always - be certain you have an adequate back stop for any shot - the second thing my dad taught me.

The first thing was always treat every firearm as if it loaded and never point it at anything you don't intend to shoot.

I'm mentally preparing for the day when they ban center fire rifle hunting in my area - it's already ban in several surrounding counties - I love shooting so I'll become a paper puncher although I do quite a bit of that now but it will never give me the thrill of hunting ground hogs and predators.

Lived in a community with at least a 50 year old shooting range. People move in next to the range and complained about the shooting. They knew the range was there but moved in anyway. They would through a bullet in their driveway and call the cops.

Ive seen some people up here throw a hand full of 9mm cases (fully loaded rounds) in their driveway then call the cops about hunting rounds landing in their yard. 3 or 4 families shared a box

Holy crap that’s close to home, aka that is my home.

Macon sucks. NYC and NJ trash is starting to filter down here. I see more and more NY plates here. People suck, government sucks, laws suck.

I think this is funny what our county is worried about. Fun fact, google Macon homicide rate, and Macon school systems. Our local governments focus is poorly misguided.

I don't know about that state but the locals in PA tried to regulate hunting, were challenged and lost. Hunting regulations are a state controlled matter. If one thinks about it, the leftists/vegan/whack jobs in power of each municipality could effectively ban hunting.

Not a lawyer but I did stay in a Holiday Inn a couple times. This municipality doesn't have a leg to stand on. They'll just waste taxpayer money defending ANY rule they try and enact.

2010 Georgia Code

ND bans any hunting within 440 yards from occupied buildings unless permission is granted.

Obviously a little less populated here I’m sure but it works pretty good. Lots of open country her too though, so when a guy thinks about it, it’s not that far.

Maybe a compromise could be made within your area for less yardage. 1000 yards is long ways.
