Vortex Golden Eagle

You grow to like Vortex optics. Priced attractively, they work attractively.

My GE is not the optical equal of my NF Competition but it is the mechanical equal. Actually, might even be better. Now when it comes to clarity the NF is way better. I can see bullet holes at 600 often with the NF. You can never see them with the GE. The GE is a little less bright so it does not "pop" like the Comp. It is more like the NF BR scope in optical quality and mechanics. That is - good. Just not super.

@CaptainMal nails it. I own both and agree completely with his assessment. I’d buy another GE in a heartbeat. The veteran discount makes it even more attractive for me. Wish they offered a GE type scope in a high mag fixed power.

What are the advantages of a fixed power scope? Which fixed power scope(s) would you purchase for use at 600 yards? I’m shopping for one!

For a high magnification variable target scope, my opinion is the GE is the "best bang for the buck".
They rile many of the more expensive scopes in mechanical stability and clarity.
And there lighter in weight (29.5 oz) then most, making it easier to make weight for some classes.

After much self-debating and mulling, I finally bought a Vortex Golden Eagle. Got a good deal on it from Sport Optics. Now, maybe I can see the target better with these tired old eyes.

Finally got to the range with my new Vortex GE mounted on my Target AR, and all I can say is WOW!! Where have you been all my shooting life? It was like a new world to me. My 71 year old eyes can actually see the target clearly and the tracking is just phenomenal! Did I mention WOW!!

I have 5 Vortex GE scopes, I can see 6mm bullet holes at 600 yards with them if the hole is in the "white" and especially if there are multiple holes close together. This is under decent conditions if there is heavy mirage it's not happening.

A lot of times for me I have to just relax and the holes appear. I don't see them when running a string without stopping to look.

Ok, I also was looking at the GE 16-60X52.

I have 2, Viper 6-24X50 PST II and have been using them for 2 years now shooting 600 yds.

I was at the Vortex office today looking to either buy a spotting scope or the GE. I have gotten so used to the FFP on the Vipers that looking at a SFP scope just doesn't cut it for me.

I like the fact that it has 1/8 MOA adjustments as apposed to the 1/4 MOA. There has been times that 1/4 MOA was too much of a click to get on the X's at 600.

I also wanted to be powerful enough to see the 6.5mm holes on the targets without a spotting scope.

I told the Vortex rep that I wished the Razor or the Viper had 1/8MOA dajustments.

He said he would pass it on to the R&D department.

I think that reading this post has me on the fence and tipping towards that GE.

I got 3 months of cold weather to make up my mind..

Ok so Golden Eagle is on my list.
But what reticle for 1000 BR ??
Also has anyone compared them to Sightron fixed 45x with the ED glass.
Comonman I gotta know....

I can compare it to the Sightron SV 10 x 50. Optically, no comparison, SV is far superior. Mechanically they both work perfect for me. I am happy with GE for the price but if you want much better optics the SV is another world.
