6mm Dasher Loads

All Dasher fans. If you are shooting 100+hrs Bullets, take a look at Vit N540. I have been getting outstanding results with a 103VT at 3005 FPS. It tends to fill the Dasher case and is very consistent. ES of 2 on my last tests. Last 1000yd match target measured 4.7”.

BL-C2 is also working quite nicely. I have a long freebore but it shoots awesome. Will not divulge the exact charge but start at 34 and work up.

31.90 to 32.28 of H4895. Not rocket science but you need a chronograph. With a 103 VT shoot for 3000 to 3010fps. This is with an 8 twist. If you are shooting a faster twist barrel than you must do the math. Gyroscopically, you must meet the rpm to make it shoot. Grains of power are unimportant.

The gun I'm shooting now likes 105 Scenar "L" bullets and has shot -.1 in no wind with both of these loads. CCI450 and either 31.7 Varget or 31.4 RL15 with a +.10 soft jamb. 1-8" tw. Don't have velocities on hand for either of these but I did run into pressure signs about 1/2 grain higher with RL15 and about 7/10th grain more with Varget. I know that going to 33 grains as some are shooting won't be tolerated in my rifle - so I'd start 10% off the higher loads you are seeing in this thread for sure.

I have a 6 Dasher that isn't acting normal in regard to powder charge. Panda action, new Krieger barrel (98 rds) 28" 4 grove 8 twist Berger 105 VLD Hunting.

I started at 31.5 of Varget and got 2620 fps. At 32.5 (which I felt would be about where I thought it would shoot) I ws only getting 2790.

Long story short at 33.6 still not even a vague sign of pressure. What's most concerning is it's still only averaging 2880 fps. Lots of wind and rain hear in N Florida so I haven't had a chance to go higher. There's no doubt I can based on the casings.

I have a chance to sell the gun, minus the barrel, but don't want to until I get this figured out.

If anyone has a thought in the matter I would appreciate hearing it.

Thanks,
Jack

Jack,
Your lot of Varget maybe slow.
+ your barrel will “speed up” when it gets150-300rds on it..
Also the temps/humidity/ air density/, play a role in your speed as well. When I shot my Dasher w/Varget, I had 2 loads for LG/HG , b/c of temps between 9:00&11:00

Thanks, Gabe. Your thoughts makes good sense including humidity. I live in Northern FL and the humidity is exceedingly high.

I have some H4895 and I may give that a try to see what happens.

It seems you were right on both counts, humidity and a very slow lot of Varget.

I continued increasing the charge until I found a very accurate node at 34.6. The chronograph read 3070 with an ES of only 7. (I made sure to load indoors with the temperature at 74 and the hygrometer at roughly 68).

I did jump another .015 and lessened the neck tension .001 to .267. Everything seems to be coming together. I have a very good sine wave (not perfect), but getting there.

I'm not sure this relates to accuracy, but I did find I was a little long at the shoulder (headspace). I bumped the neck another .002 and the fired cases ejected from the chamber much more smoothly.

Thanks again, Gabe. You set me on the right path.

Set ammo out @ shooting conditions will help a bunch..
If it’s warm out- let ammo get to air temp(warm)..

ive been shooting in 30* weather, ammo stays out in vehicle overnight till they get shoved in the gun..

Welcome

Will do. I can see where equalizing temperatures (loads and atmosphere) makes good sense.

(30* weather! That's just not right.)

I am using the following in hydroformed or fireformed from lapua 6br brass:

Krieger 30" 1:7 5R twist 0.236
Pierce action Eliseo repeater
CCI450
33.0 IMR4895
Barts 105 Gungnir Moly
Berger 105 hybrid Moly
Nosler 105 RDF Moly
Nosler 115 RDF Moly
0.010" Jump
The 105s are going right at 3005fps and the 115s are going 2950fps with same load.

Been lurking a while, gents.

Have a couple of questions that are kind of off subject.

Have any of you shot the Dasher in a shorter barrel? I'm thinking 18"-22".

If you have, what velocities have you been getting with 95s, 105s, 110s, etc?

I'm planning on building a short(er) Dasher rifle that will be suppressed 90% of the time. It will be used for PRS style and long range rucking type matches.

Thanks in advance!

I've got a few 6 Dashers with 22" bbls.

32.6 gr Varget nets 2,861 fps with formed Lapua cases, CCI 450's and 108 ELD-M's.

Just finished my 6 Dasher with a 22” Benchmark. Only shot it out to 500 yds so far, but drops tell me I’m at 2905 fps. Seems fast to me with only 32 gr Varget. Bullet is a 103 ELD-X. Did shoot a antelope at 298 yds. Worked good but this bullet does a lot of damage even at Dasher speeds.

26" Hart 1-10 twist, .272 neck set up for shooting Prairie dogs.
Lapua brass
CCI 450
34.5 RE15- @3204 fps
87 Vmax
Has never shot over .6 @ 300 yards in good conditions.

I don’t shoot a dasher but a 6Br and a 6.5×47. A powder that is often overlooked is Norma 203B. I have been shooting it for 2 years and prefer it over Varget. It is real close to RL 15 and some blogs say it’s the same powder in a different container! I have had good results with it. Powder Valley has it Sometimes!
Re 15 is made by Norma in Sweden and it is the same powder as Norma 203B. Good shooting

Guys I want to add some info I've been collecting. I built a remage 6dasher with a criterion 7.5twist 26" barrel. I'm using the sierra 107gr, re 16, and norma brass trimmed to lapua length. I really began to see things shrink @ 34.9gr. 35gr - 2960, 35.1gr - 2970, 35.3gr - 2992, & 35.5gr - 3002fps. All of these groups had single digit sd across my magnetospeed v3, but the two groups of 35.1 and 35.5gr had the best accuracy in my rifle with no pressure issues. I'm looking to use the 35.5gr load...

What is the lot number on you RL-16?
