Tagged coyote?

No bounty in NC. Possibly brought in by fox hunters and escaped from their run? ( Common practice here which helped coyotes move East ) or migrated from a state that does tag? Help me out guys. Customer killed this big male today. NCWRC doesn't seem to know squat. If anyone recognizes the tag or anything let me know.

WOW....I have never seen a tagged yote....Very cool.

That is similar to the “non-existent” big cats in the Ozark Mountains. Game & Fish refuses to acknowledge the animals. Not saying they’re common as dirt, but I saw several and had one living on my property. After looking at interweb photos and doing a wee bit of research, I easily identified the cats to be jaguarundi.

SC Dept of Fish and Game has a promotion going on to get hunters to get out and harvest coyotes. This tagged coyote maybe from SC. Free hunting license for life for anyone that kills a tagged coyote here in SC.

There was a debate here between a $75 bounty per coyote and this program of tagged coyote for free hunting license for life.

ON the flip side, hounds men pay $75 for a live coyote, illegal with a $500 fine.

Coyotes have taken out 50% of our deer herd in SC. Fish and Game put out a Game camera by a Coyote den, and a pair of coyotes brought in 22 fawns in one Spring.

This is a battle between Insurance companies and Sportsmen in SC at this time. Out West, the coyote take a lot of calves, so the battle is more between the Ranchers and Insurance companies.

Here in SC, Coyotes here are working their way up from deer and goats, they will get to the calves eventually. Coyotes here cross with dogs, they are very smart and HUGE!

You have to be 10 feet up a tree to night hunt hogs or coyotes here in SC.

SC should have the $75 bounty on Coyotes, increase license fees to pay for the bounty...simple. I used to see a lot of deer and turkeys on my property. I have not seen a fawn in years, and turkeys are gone. Coyotes are around me howling at night on almost on a daily basis.

Coyotes in SC is BAD for one of the greatest Natural Resources this state has, but Insurance company profit is more important at this time.

There were some studies that I read by another state's fish and game dept that stated that coyote numbers had to be decreases by 75% every year to keep the population level. This is not good news for deer hunters that pay $10 per acre for a deer lease.

Sorry for the Rant!

This is a 43lb. Male. Shot here in Ohio in Nov. Males average 40lbs. Here in central ohio and females mid 30s, we taken 18 since 29th of Sept. Went out deer hunting with my son this past weekend for bonus gun seasons weekend on a farm we have hunted for 20yrs. I have not deer hunted for 10yrs. But have been hunting coyotes for the last 16yrs. And i need to start hunting them year round, Saturday saw no deer,Sunday saw 3, shot a doe. This farm you would see 30 a day 15yrs ago, the coyotes are wiping out the deer. And now we have bobcats, but there protected, i don't see deer numbers coming back. We find several adult deer killed in the winter. Maybe wounded by hunters or sick but a couple 40+ lb. Dogs can easily take down a healthy deer. Gotta keep working on the coyotes, they over run an area quickly.

I hunt by New Castle off 36, Deer are almost non existent compared to 10-20 years ago. I'm not sure what's been harder on the Deer herd, the coyotes or the amish

I think the coyotes have been harder on the population. I agree with you and JFW that the deer population is down from 10-20 years ago. Also agree that the coyotes are the larger contributor to the decline. Personally, I don't believe that the ODNR is taking all this business about the coyotes (and now bobcats) seriously. A den of coyote pups can put away a LOT of venison during just a few months in the den and growing. JME. WD

Ackley man, I wasn’t aware about this about hogs and coyotes. I know this is applies to deer hunting if you are within 300 yds of a house.
Deer are in abundance around the upstate SC. I know of three processors within 20 miles of me that all have over 2000 deer already processed.

Know the area well, call there a few places and i'd say Amish are harder, they wipe out all game including farm ponds. Know several pond owners that won't allow them to fish because they keep everything they catch.

It seems like back there your coyotes are all reddish in color. Although I'll find one with red in their coat once in awhile, ours out here in CA are salt and peppery in color; the reason we can get more for the pelts.

A few years back I took a big female, went 43 lbs. There's one running around my neighborhood that's huge, we've speculated a coy-dog or wolf cross...
