What are you working on this winter?

Same old,same old here....

Cast bullets out of modified factory bolt guns at as high of velocity as I can get. Nothing better than explosive 22-250 impacts on crows. Shoot almost every day, rain or shine. Friggin wind has been a bugger the last cpl days.

Also make some pretty nice, very specialized loading equipment/tools for the above.

Would you be willing to show pictures. Sounds interesting.

Terry, generally don't go into detail here because it's not really what I feel like is the focus of the forum. Which BTW is one of my favorites, having learned right much. And don't go into much detail on "dedicated" cast forums cause more often then not,it's like I'm trying to "sell" something? But here's one that is dead simple.

It's very "basic" from a tool design standpoint.Much like inline dies, you can make it much more complicated but, why? Take a mould that drops an oversize nose,or bore ride section and run it down into a tapered die. The beauty of a taper is that you get to match the chamber leade angle and adjust diameter, and to a certain extent, the location.

Finishing up the final touches on a 1903 sporter for my dad, hopefully starting a new build in 6br for my other half, because I want a 6br.

The plan on the 6br is a 40xbr stock painted Tiffany blue, stainless R700, remage 1:8 barrel, silver Weaver T36, jewel trigger.

Still needs a buttplate otherwise just finished it.
6.5 PRC also have a 7mmx300RCM barrel chambered for it. The 6.5 is a cheap Green Mountain. I don't recall if the 7mm is a Krieger or Brux I added a muzzle brake to the 7mm.
Rem model 7 action. This is the action I posted pictures of opening up the boltface from a 223 to mag boltface this spring.
Richards Microfit stock
Rifle Basix 2oz trigger
Athlon Ares BTR 4.5x27 FFP scope purchased when Midway had them half price.
Without labor I have less than $1500 in the entire setup with 2 barrels.
Need to do some load development now and see if it will shoot.

I started in the late summer or early fall to build a Savage Axis II in an MDT LSS chassis for ELR shooting. I hope to finish it this winter.

It has a 31" barrel in 284 Winchester and I'm building an extended 3" bag rider forend. I am bedding every joint that might impact accuracy or feel. That's the recoil lug/receiver front, scope rail and forend attachment. For easier transport it has a folding stock. After the metal work on the chassis is complete, I will be vinyl wrapping the chassis and forend.

It's a budget build but with some bling. The goal is a 2,000 yard rifle with scope for $2,000 total. It's going to be unique looking but not in a bad way.

That chassis works really well with the axis rifles. I built a 6.5 creedmoor with that setup and it shoots extremely well. Good luck with your build, wouldn't mind seeing a pic.

I have a thread in the Big Stuff category, it has several pictures.
