Throat too long?

My "go to" load is 59 to 58.5gr h4831sc with a 150gr and gives me higher than book velocity...i think im running at the upper end of the pressure range?

12 feet is to close. I will bet you a knickel muzzle blast is messing with your chrono. Replace the battery and try it out in the sunshine then with your light on it. You have a problem hse process of elimination to find it!
Also your rifle may not like your go to load.
You may have to start load develop over. Ive seen higher than would like es from loads that werent quite dialed in. Granted not 200.

If your 22LR ammo is match grade, you have chrono issues - an ES of 50 fps is HUGE! However, if it's bargain bin stuff it might be that large, which makes the question why are you using it to test your chrono???

I have experienced some BIG differences in force to seat a bullet after annealing, so I suggest you drop the annealing and try a few to see if the velocity evens out.

Are you measuring overall length after seating, or the cartridge base to ogive length, with a comparator? Over all length can vary a lot due to differences in each bullet, you need to be using the comparator readings. You have the ackley reamer print, if you have a question regarding distances, post the reamer print.

I believe the chronograph needs to be farther from the muzzle.

The 22lr is winchester black box stuff....i used it because it was cheap...

I will try and increase my distance to the chrono next time. Or try not using it.

Now i just have to wait for spring.errgg.

As far as seating depth, i do not have a comparator, so i am measuring to the meplat.
I have a comparator set and cartridge length gauge in my wish list but funds are tight right now.

Going to try adding jump one 150s and increasing chrono distance..as well as starting to formulate my loads and groups at 100 yards instead of 300.

Might try some rl25 too

As far as the 185s, i used them to fireform a few cases and got hits in high wind on steel...cannot attest to keyholes.

Mesuring to the end of the loaded round is almost useless except for seeing if it will fit in a magazine. The bullet length will probably vary by .015 in a single lot or box of bullets. It sounds like you have the caliper, the basic comparator set at Midway is $26, and you need it to get your loaded length consistent within a couple thousands. The cartridge length gauge is not as important, as you are neck sizing only, so you are not changing that measurement. I am sure that when it gets warmer and you can get out to shoot, you will be able to resolve these questions, good luck.

Holy cow!

It was warm out so i went shooting.

Backed the loads down and decided to apply some advice.
First group of the day.

58gr h4831sc
150g lapua scenar l
3.305 oal
Federal gold medal match magnum primer
Hornady brass full length sized

2981fps
Sd 2.28
Es 6
5 shot group at 110 yards was .550 minus the cold bore flyer....not my best work but a heck of an improvement over what i was getting.

Im so excited. All i had to do is jump the bullet. Now i have somewhere to start finally!

Thanks for all the help folks.
