17 REM Barrel Sugguestion

I am thinking about re-barrelling a REM 700 (currently a 223), but thinking about a 17 REM. Typically, I have done business with Pac-Nor, but sounds like they will be out of action for quite some time since they had a devastating fire. Looking for suggestions for a barrel manufacturer.

Thank you in advance....

I've talked to Kevin Weaver a few times about different 17 cal barrels and he seems to have very good luck with Lilja's 17 cal barrels.

Other than the bargain basement stuff, most any custom .17 barrel should be good. The main thing is a glass smooth bore. Rough factory barrels gave the .17 Rem a bad reputation. If you have a choice, look hard at a 3 groove.

Similar project about this time a year ago.
I went with a Shilen Select Match.
Zero free bore.

Every thing has went super. Easy cleaning, easy load work.
I am like others, don’t think you can go wrong with the makers that have been around for a while.

Will Shilen duplicate a factory contour, such as Remington for example?? Thanks in advance. WD

If you are planning to run 30 grain bullets or even 25 VMax then I'd go 9 twist.

Edit: my bad, Shilen does indeed list a 9 twist
