Concrete shooting bench top

I would like to make my own concrete shooting bench and am looking for some dimensions for the top. What kind of width at the front and back. Also, what overall length. Good day and thanks,

You got any good shooting ranges around you can copy? There are many bench designs, some flat out suck.

I would recommend against concrete bench tops. My local range has them and they don't hold bipods or rests very well.

There is one close by, I'll take my tape measure and have a look see.(I actually forgot about that range). Not too far from another but you have to be a member for access. Maybe someone will let me check out their bench set up. Thanks!

Rear width: 17.25"
Forward side length: 30.75"
OAL: 48.58"

If I can't rest both of my elbows comfortably I'm not comfortable! If it not long enough or wide enough it it to SMALL! Big, wide and comfy, like a women I know. Mike

Concrete is the ONLY way to go if a shooter wants repeatable accuracy at the top level. Don't steer the OP in the wrong direction.

I am very interested in your recommendations of what a proper bench should be .

There is no "wrong direction" here. Calm down.

And if ever he is going to shoot off a bi pod, it is impossible to load the bipod Off a concrete bench. Not to mention the fact it is much easier to shape /re- shape wood for the particular Cut out you want to be able to Body up to the bench.

You can do everything off a wood bench you can do off a concrete bench. And more.

Stop claiming your way is the only right way. This is purely a matter of preference.

For the OP:

Good suggestions above if you decide to go concrete.

1. Make it ambidexterous if You ever plan on having others over to shoot.

2. Think carefully about the cut out. Getting both elbows on the bench is very helpful.

3. Once you have determined your cut out then figure the correct length to get your front rest / rear bag fully supported by the bench, as well as both elbows.

The ones at my range are similar to this, but the shooter cutout is just a 45* angle instead of the curve as shown in the picture. There is a blunt point at the rear (3-5") under the rear bag. Very stable but some of the benches/seats are slightly out of position in relation to the tabletop for a comfortable seating position while some are comfy. The seats are two cinder blocks cemented to the concrete pad.

I like that cut out pictured above as it's helpful in getting the left elbow on the bench for a right handed shooter. I personally would make the bench longer so I could get my front rest fully on the bench top. At least from the picture it looks a little short ... at least from the perspective of how I set up my rests and rifle.

Thank you all. I will make it ambidextrous, my dad is lefty and I would like him to shoot. I also have some optic nerve damage in my right eye. I can still somewhat see through a scope but would probably be better off shooting lefty( works ok with a shotgun)

Seems like a guy would want to get a cheap piece of particle board, and start hacking around on it till ya find the right shape. THEN, form up your concrete. jd

concrete with steal legs or concrete legs is best adds weight just glue a wood top to it
wood can be ok but it changes with weather
