Stolen Valor

Back in the day, I worked with a guy that did EVERYTHING. Anything you did, he did it more and better.
After him jumping into the usual conversations at lunch time, I finally had enough and called him on it, in front of EVERYBODY!!
The whole bunch of us were in our early 20s and just starting out in life.
I called him out after he had run his mouth a little to long. I told him," You have to be at least 200 years old because of all the things you've done and how much better you've done them compared to everyone else". DEAD SILENCE!!! He didn't have much to say after that, EVER.:D;)
I think I saw him running for political office somewhere??:p;)

Read somewhere that only something like 87% if the Viet Nam vets saw live firefight action. Now days it seems 97% were rangers, snipers or seal 6 members and had firefights everyday.
When some around me start this Viet Nam talk I ask them what dates were you there, that usually stops them or the dates they offer, were no where near the actually action dates.

Hey! I've got an idea. Let's all bash Vietnam War Veterans once again! Obviously the 'thank you for your service' political correctness era has waned. Yes, there are lots of fakes. I've met a few who were obviously too young to have been there. Then there are those who avoided the conflict while in the military and now feel inadequate, so they make something up. And lastly, there are those who avoided service altogether, relishing their cleverness back then but now, years later, questioning their own manhood. There are still many of the latter using that war to bolster their now frail old egos.Ah, to have once been a warrior! So you guys go ahead and question the marksmanship of those who did serve in that nasty little war. I'm sure you know little of peppering the LZ, fire superiority, mad minutes, delta-tangoes, H&I fire, free fire zones, recon by fire, mini guns, vulcan cannons and other means of putting out massive fire in order to suppress the enemy, avoid a possible ambush, or keep the enemy at bay and disorganized. They have nothing to do with marksmanship and everything to do with tactics that expended massive amounts of ammo to avoid politically unpopular casualty figures. Bullets are cheaper than bodies! Like political polls, numbers are often meaningless and misused to make a point that is misleading. The number of rounds belies the realities of that war. Fakes are a sad but ironic reality of our life. Sad that people have to pretend to be something they are not because our society seems to only value superlatives. Ironic because those of us who did serve in that war were made ashamed to even mention it in polite civilian society - but as for the marksmanship, I am now 70 years old and will still be more than happy to put mine up against any of you, anytime, anywhere.

Morning guys,, Hey most of the vets here know Seal 6 was nowhere near Vietnam. Maybe in a time warp. The team was formed `79- 80 after some mess ups in Iran and other ops. Dick Marchinko and others formed the team. Just a little history for folks not familiar with it and the facts will help filter the fakes when you hear it. I do think, like politicians, some people tell a story so long they believe it themselves. I wear a pair of BS baffles and turn them on when I get around such people. Most time it does have a good laugh attached. Jeff

Or just grin and bear it. I pity those who feel their lives are so insignificant that they have to make up adventures in order to feel adequate, and I always felt a little touch of humor that those who mocked us in the 60's and 70's now wish that they had been us! It is a funny old world.
True, it's about all you can do and this world is more of a different place. A lot of us on here are old dinosaurs, but beware, even old dinosaurs have lots and lots of teeth.

I thought it was Rick, I'm losing it. I do know that he had wrote a book on some of it "Rogue Warrior" I do believe.
It is Dick and I`m losing it too.My hair, eyesight, hearing and mind. But it keeps people guessing. Jeff

I found a guy saying he deployed to North Korea. He's been spreading the story around in several places. He might be military, who knows but he didn't change his tune untill not one but two people called him on it.

I'm going to keep looking to see if he actually cleans up his lie a bit.

We have been lucky in the Rangers, at least the two units I served with in RVN. Every REMF wants to be a former SEAL or Green Beret. We just don't have the glamour I guess.
Every one that I was concerned about got asked what the Darby Queen was, and where.
Me, you can just go to the Army Ranger Regiment Ass. website and look for my name. Or Golf Company 75th Inf's website and look for #363.

Well, when asked maybe he did not want to say, "Well, I shoveled shit in Kansas."
If you are referring to my post, nobody asked, he wrote it on his website and let it get copied and pasted elsewhere.

It seems like the part of his story about doing EOD work looks accurate and while it does involve shoveling and might not be as glamorous as Special Forces, that part gets my respect until you say stupid shit like "I got deployed to North Korea".

Why? Just why?
