Texas folks question?

Welcome to Texas. Is that high fence in the back ground? Someone asked about scorpions you will see plenty. That area is gorgeous. Next door neighbor has a jack russell mix and it was bit 2 time a week apart. it did fine.

Yup. There are 3-400 fenced acres around the house to keep the exotics from wandering off. Only 5 other houses inside the fence line. Gets me a property tax deduction for raising them. Not supposed to shoot them, tho.

Well that is cool, what kind of exotics?

From a short conversation, there’s Aoudad, Blackbuck, Sitka deer and Thompson’s gazelle. Might be more or less. My attention waned when they said I couldn’t hunt them and most of the neighbors considered them pets. They DID mention they had a hog and Coyote problem!!;):);) I might just have to buy a thermal scope? Aw shucks!:p

No Axis deer? Rules on exotics in Texas were changed a few years ago. We have at least 3 high fence ranches within a 3 mile radius and they no longer have exotics. Probably a licensing and tax BS.

Forgot that one! Yup! Axis deer, too. Just got off the phone.....”any hogs or Coyotes on the property are considered Vermin and can be shot on sight! Just remember that the hogs eat the rattlers. Don’t shoot them all.”

looks like you will have some fun. When you get settled there is a long range club that shoot not far away sometimes. They just changed the law on hogs you dont even need a license. dont know about coyotes but probably do for them. To bad the axis are on the do not shoot list.

I am excited about it. We toured Wyoming for two weeks, looking. Lot’s of fly fishing for me. One night, the wifey says “I won’t know anybody”. I remembered that. We hit Texas for her cousin’s birthday party and there she sat, surrounded by family. Driving over to cousin Jimmy’s house the following day, I noticed the house next door was up for sale. Kismet! Went over for a tour and she liked it. Cousin Jimmy has a place on the coast and a few boats where I can fish. That was enough for me. Our offer and a check went in the mail today. The realtors say it should fly. I have my fingers crossed!

You're sure to have whitetail deer inside that fence unless they were all removed. The whitetails get you the wildlife exemption, not the exotics (unless of course they're dancers and then that's a
different kind of wildlife). You really should harvest some of the wildlife as you can see from your pictures that there ain't a lot to eat in that Texas Hill Country. Takes a lot of acres just to feed the
goats.
Welcome to Texas
Robert

when I was Growing up in central Texas we had a black hound that I believe was addicted to rattle snake venom. He was for ever walking around with a swollen snout, leg, neck or entire head. Ended up being blinded in one eye from a snake bite. Tough dog. He lived to be 12 years old.
