Bergara Rebarreling

Has anyone re-barreled a Bergara rifle? Is it any more difficult than a Rem 700? Was the receiver relatively "true"? I'm considering buying one of these and wanted to get some feel for this. Thank you for your time.

They use Rem thread pattern (1.062x16) but with a coned bolt. Should be easy enough for any smith.

The Bergara is 1.062x 16 thread per inch an has a 25 degree cone on face of barrel tenon the h.s. is about .95 thousands above face.

Looks like they have that goofy hs precision flat next to the chamber before the cone

Personally I would by a Remington an stay away from it my opinion sorry.

Laying all jokes aside, I would go with a semi custom kelbly atlas,stiller,curtis,etc. I normally go with semi custom actions,but for some reason I'am working on a rem 700. I have almost as much money in it as I would a semi custom. But don't have the smooth bolt lift the side bolt release etc. That just my opinion and AS forest Gump said that all I got to say about that. What ever you decide good luck with your build

Not sure how to say this in a gunsmithing or engineering sort of way (I ain't either) The root of the bolt handle located so it will hit the bump on the back of the action to jerk the case out.

Just cut a flat face breech, to hell with that "cone". As to receiver quality, the 2 dozen I've rebarreled all were horrible, the face of the reciever was skewed very bad, but that didn't stop them from being sub .5 min guns.

The reason for my questions is a fellow was shooting some dang sporty groups from a factory Bergara at the range a while ago. He let me handle it. The action was way smoother than any of my Remingtons and the unadjusted factory trigger was much nicer than I've come to expect on a factory rifle. I was just wondering if I bought one and couldn't get it to shoot, how big a deal it would be to get it rebarreled.

I'm with Rockchuck. I'd pick between the Kelbly Atlas, Defiance Tenacity or Bighorn Origin. Those are three great actions in similar price points.

If you just can't swing it and need to start with a factory action...as much as I hate to say it, I'd go Tikka.

Youre already going thru the action, its one of the simpler operations to fix the bolt handle

Please fill me in on what is wrong with these rifles. Everyone I’ve handled and shot for others seems really well built and they all shoot great. I’d say for the money , they and tikka are the best value out there.
I’d see nothing wrong with buying one and shooting it till the barrels gone and rebarreling. However if your gonna buy and pull the new barrel off then yea buy a custom action and build away.
