nightforce compitition 15x55x56

2013 models utilized 5 moa turrets with caps, while newer models have 10 moa turrets without caps. The newer models with 10 moa turrets are much more desirable.

looking at used is there anything I need to look for
I have no clue what you're looking at as the item you mentioned does not exist. Disregarding the spelling mistake and the multitude of Xs, the Nightforce Competition with a magnification range of 15 to 55 has a 52mm objective lens; 15-55X52.

The only thing I’ll add is that the newer 10moa turret version (post 2013) are also more desirable because they are ZeroStop. That means once you set your zero you can also turn back down to it and know your comeup is solid.

I’ve had and shot both and the 5moa turrets can get a little sketchy shooting a 800-900-1000 when you’re putting upwards of 26moa on the scope. Five revolutions is a long way to go for some people and you can get lost a lot easier.

Get the reticle you prefer. And a 58mm UV filter fits the objective perfectly and provides added protection.
Yeah, you don't want to do that. Unless you buy a very expensive filter, the cheap ones that you get will not provide additional protection, may even shatter and scratch your objective lens and they may introduce artifacts if you are aiming anywhere close to the sun or other light sources and they also rob you of some light.

In photography circles there is always a raging discussion about using a UV filter as protection and most pros simply do not use them for that. None of my camera lenses are adorned with a UV filter.

If you want to protect your objective lens from bumps and stuff, do as I do with my riflescopes and camera lenses; always use a sunshade or lens hood. That also has the benefit of preventing light from the sides and I find it gives a clearer image of the subject/target.
