Best powder for 308 benchrest

Back when I shot Hunter Bench Rest with a tight neck 308 I shot my best scores with IMR 8208. I had a 1:14 twist and shot 135 gr Custom bullets, however.

I have not got my hands on any 155gr palma bullets yet but for the 150gr Sierra match kings mine really liked 43.5gr of the 8208 and they are running at 2870 fps.

That is awesome but I never could get Varget to be consistent from one pound to the next so I gave up trying. The last batch I bought (2 pounds) sucked so bad I gave it away.

H4895, varget, 748. You will find a couple good nodes with the h4895. It most likely won't be the fastest.
If I were shooting short range I would start around 40gr. With the 4895.

I've been shooting it since back when it was called Mulwex 2208 and have never had a problem and I've gone through lots of pounds!

I try to use Varget for everything as it is less sensitive to temperature changes. The best accuracy I've had was with IMR-4064

I've been using Alliant 2000-MR in my 308 factory Remington 700 for a couple years for benchrest competitions out to 1000 yds. Recently ran out of this powder, so I came up with a short-term substitute with RL15. Debating if I'll go back to 2000-MR, continuing to develop a RL15 load, or try some of the other powders mentioned here.

8208 has become my go to Palma powder. I would highly recommend it.

Just like a little info ? Barrel length? Average Velocity ? Type Brass ? How many time you can fire that Brass .

I run a 30” and a 32” on 2 different guns. Load runs right at 2975-3000 depending on the gun. Brass is Winchester or Lapua. I’m on like firing 4 or 5 now and no signs of pockets going.
