low noise 20 gauge rounds for rats?

gopher bait mixed with peanut butter---it kills whatever eats it, so be careful! check your local laws

Maybe 10 years before Hastings offered a Metro barrel on of the Predator Hunting Mags had an article about making one out of conduit. Told where and how many holes to drill, it worked good. The big key to the Metro barrel i rill

If you roll your own, Light 20 gauge rounds are a snap if you have the small shot charge wads, IIRC you can go as low as 5/8 oz of shot with a light powder charge. A shotgun, however is still noisy even when you back them off. I've seen choke tube extensions(maybe a foot long) kind of like a bloop tube, that is supposed to quiet down a shotgun some also. after looking up metro barrels, I guess this was what I was thinking of.

A quick search revealed comercial 7/8 oz Double A's featherlite at 980FPS and an RTS 2.5 inch shell with 3/4 oz.

Again with reloading, there is a thread on shotgunworld about the 5/8 oz loads and using puffed rice for filler! LOL

just noticed this is 2 years old, I hope you have taken care of those rats by now!!

How close are your neighbors? What will the police think? Also consider communicating with your neighbors. Could turn out being a party.

I'd pay postage for a copy of that article, been looking for it for years

snert, that magazine is here someplace just like new. Problem is I've got boxes and boxes of that stuff and right now I'm suffering from the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. might be winter before I get a chance to look for it. I'd kind of like to find that magazine myself to see if Brezny was the author and inventor of the Metro gun. Keep after me. If I find it postage is on me. One thing for sure I have had a lot of fun with my metro barrel and have put it to good use.

Thanks Iowa. I'd be plenty happy with just the specs for the conduit model! I think the guy who did ammo work for Starfire bullets might have been mentioned in that article too,....Pi? Anyhow, my recollection is Brezny or a buddy were fabbing them before they went to "Metro Barrel". Looked goofy as anything, but I saw genius for barn pigeon blasting, and I used to do a lot of that!

I bought DOM tubing with a .709 inside diameter from Speedy metals i think.
7/8's outside buy .709 .083 wall thickness.
I took measurements from a choke tube. They are good fun.

A pellet rifle with a slightly slower velocity might just be the trick.

If you hand load you can load up some very low power ammo for that 20ga. I did some in 12 ga. Very low power with a full shot cup and not having to cut the cup down. I also did some with a less than full cup. This required cutting the cup and hull shorter. As to what one will work best for this app. I can not say. If your gun patterns them well the lesser amount of shot will be fine.

If I was ever to do it over I would just buy some cardboard wads and caps so I would not have to do any cutting down of the wad or hulls. As I would single load them.
