In response to an article on the home page regarding pesky fliers, Boyd Allen replied with several ideas to increase shooting accuracy. One of them spoke to me. Bedding scope mounts, while first exposed to the idea in Tony Boyer's book, I never tried it. Now I have another cold dark winter project. Thoughts and ideas like this are why I find this forum required daily reading. Again thank you Boyd.

You are welcome. No need to wait for winter. It is really easy, and quick to do. I had looked at my friend's rifle and there was a burr by a screw hole that looked like it was keeping most of the base from making solid contact with the receiver. Once I saw that, I told him that he was wasting his time working on loads and other things until he bedded the base. In addition to the burr, the top of the receiver under the base was heavily coated with oil, which to me indicated a gap.

Another good read of Boyd's was on exercising your scope through its elevation and wind age adjustment.
Keeps the springs from getting lazy, and tracking operating properly.

Yup,put me on the book's waiting list. Not trying to puff him up but;

There are writers that come along every once in awhile that just have that knack for not only clarity,but also an easy going enjoyable read. I have Mr. Boyer's book,lots of good info and well worth the price of admission,it isn't that good of a read though. Not being critical because it never was 'sposed to be anything but pure brainfood..... get that balance of technical info and reading enjoyment down,well that's why some books become classics.

I am a book junky,read and buy a LOT of non-fiction.

Since the ending of Precision Shooting magazine, quality shooting related reading material has been few and far between, in my opinion. I enjoy reading and in some cases rereading many articles. Most of my just for fun reading material comes from the grocery store, in the paper back book section. Last winter I found a book by CJ Box, stories about Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett. This led me to buy the rest of the series. Hopefully will finish this winter.

Boyd if you write a book I will buy it.
