Whoever designed Alliant's 8lb jugs needs to be punched

It's not just Redding's die boxes. ALL brands could be reduced 25% and sized enough to fit in a USPS small flat rate box. I know they'll fit now but it's a stretch.

On a bit more serious note:

With all the focus on recycling and waste, the packaging of most everything is at least 30% too big. "They" should enact their "meaningful legislation" and leave the second amendment alone.....and really "help" the world.

Hmmm, not sure I dont need a stronger cuppa joe this A.M.
It's gotta be Mr. Trumps fault, everything else is!:p

I’m with @ShootDots and the OP. I originally was equally frustrated with the giant size but now like the ability to mix lots more easily. On a side note I do feel their lids more tightly seal out any atmosphere compared to Hodgedon but it’s probably negligible in the end. Again, first world problems at the end of the day. ;)

It very much feels 1/2 full (if that).

I think it's like one of those 'dual use' bonus items they include to do you a favor....similar to how Lapua brass boxes can be turned into a cartridge box. Only with Alliant 8lb kegs, they double as an above ground diesel tank once the powder is out of them.
lol

I actually like the Alliant designed jugs! Why? It makes it easier to mix lot-to-lot powders. EXAMPLE: I have 2 / 8 pound jugs of RL-23 but with different lot numbers. It has been well documented that their Lot-to-Lot is pretty consistent. However, once I get down to about 4 pounds in 1 jug, I will mix the other one in there and now I have 12 pounds of virtually the same powder. It merely makes it easier to do that..

I like them for the same reason....plenty of extra space to tumble and get a thorough mix. Now those Federal primer boxes........

Whats the problem with federal primer boxes? Ive never had an issue with them. That lock tab on the bottom? You just gotta fold it up before you slide it open- no problem if you know its there

Functionally, nothing is wrong with them. That said, they're about 2-3x bigger than they need to be. I'm genuinely surprised some LEAN/Six Sigma guy hasn't come along and downsized the packaging to save on transportation/packaging costs.

Then they become remington boxes. Too small to deal with. With a dillon primer flip tray they all work fine for me

I think it’s for fire code/storage reasons applying to retailers. I’ve seen minimum volume requirements for powder storage I believe ensure that it would sizzle without developing pressure if ignited.

They need to fire their packaging engineers for flunking math then. Their volume calculations are way off looking at the other powder mfrs. but youre right about the volume. Thats why you can just about combine 2 bottles into one on just about any powder container 1lb and 8#

Both primer boxes and powder jugs are designed to meet some DOT requirements. I haven't looked into the design, but I'm pretty sure that the powder containers are done that way to limit the total mass of flammable material in a given area/volume in a transport/storage environment, but Alliant's are way over the top.

I agree with the above poster about the Remington primer boxes, they are huge. I much prefer the CCI or Tula primer box.

I wonder if the EMEA regulations are stricter than ours, and they're just using European kegs in the US market to avoid different jugs for different markets.

Any EU shooters reading this? If so, do your Hodgon jugs look the same as the pictured H4350?

I always wondered why VV didn’t observe the volume constraints. They are EU.
