Old gun- What to do?

This is my grandfathers axe. Over the years it’s been re-handled 6 times and we’ve replaced the head twice. But it’s my grandfathers axe?

I have always liked this saying. Here is how I break it down. It was his at some point now it is mine. Handles are consumables so swap them out as you see fit. That is why they sell replacements. Now if he ever comes back and wants an AX I will give what ever I have for an AX to him or buy him a better ax.

Same goes for barrels. They are consumables so swap them or have them lined. I am sure your Grandfather would like you to use it and make your own memories with it instead of just looking at it and thinking of the old memories.

When they want to drink whiskey and talk about whittlin, they go to 24 hour. When they want to KNOW about rifles like this, they go to Lee Shaver. Dellet is on it.

Me, I'd get good advice and delve into shooting it. My 414 Stevens is one of the "funner" guns I shoot. I need a guy like Dellet to make it fire consistently, after being abused and dry fired by the neandrethal ho owned it before me....

Rifle is an 1885 (+/-) Ely Whitney Rolling Block. Originally chambered in .38 CFC. It was part of my grandfather's extensive gun collection. I traded with my cousin a caplock rifle for this one, all from grandad.
The barrel was a sewer pipe, rusted badly so I had it re-lined in .32-20 WCF. All the metal parts were cleaned & as much original finish as possible was saved. The wood was cleaned, steamed & finished with Minwax Antique oil finish. The optic is a Leatherwood copy of what might have been used back then. With cast lead bullets, it shoots about 2" at 100 yds, with 100 gn. JHP pistol bullets a little less. Light recoil, it's just a fine fun rifle to shoot.

Truth. Lee is a very nice guy who knows more about single shot rifles than most alive today. He did a restoration on my great uncle's 1885 Winchester that is absolutely flawless. If anyone will know about this rifle, it would be Lee.

Be careful that Schumer or Pelosi doesn't see this....looks like a special made sniper rifle with certain villianous features that mkae it more deadly, especially that selector switch on the side!

You don't also have modified clip-mags too do you?!? I looked closely and do not see a "return to zero rubber band" on that scope, so i know you are are not hard-core!

I believe it is. My Grandfather was German, too. When I have the time, I’m going to pull it apart, look for markings and study the mechanics.
I’d like to make it a shooter again. Since it was already rebored, I don’t consider it an “original collector piece”.
I have another one that’s a bolt action. I played with it’s restoration , 12 or so years ago. I did a chamber cast and found the original cartridge. It’s a short, rebated rim 9.5 x 47R black powder cartridge. I even found a guy that makes the brass for it at $2 a pop. Then I got busy and shelved it.
That gun has the same style stock but with a longer forend. I’ll dig it out and post some pics.

Josh, Just got back from our family reunion in NE Oklahoma. My brother in law gifted me with a small #2 Remington Rolling Block in 32CF. It ain't in too bad of shape. I have one Rolling Block in 45 70 and one in 22RF. The 45 70 is complete and redone and the RF is being restocked at the present. I'm going to try to fix anything it need mechanically and shoot it.
