help ranking these pistols...

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to pistols. With that said I could use some help figuring out which of these pistols are the most reliable/ well built...
In no paticular order:

Ruger GP100 (.357-38)
Kimber Crimson (.45)
Beretta 92F (9mm)
Ruger P85 (9mm)
Ruger 93DC (9mm)
colt cobra (38)

I have a Beretta 92. It won’t hit a barn, even if you’re standing inside it. I own a Beretta Storm and it’s great. Accurate as hell.
A good friend bought a Kimber. It kept breaking.
I hate Rugers.
I’m actually a big fan of Colt 1911s. I own a few so the Colt Cobra would be my pick from your list. Colt makes nice guns.

For reliability and build quality. The Ruger GP100, Beretta 92 with the Kimber at the bottom of the list. Can't speak to the others but have a lot of experience with the three I mentioned.

I think the Berretta 92 hates me. It’s my least accurate pistol.
Kimber? I’ve only had three “encounters” with them, so my info IS limited. My friend’s was the first. The second was at a local gun store I walked into as a customer was going ballistic on the counter guy that sold him a Kimber that broke the first time he shot it.
The third was positive. We took a kid’s girlfriend to the range with her new little Kimber 380. I picked it up and put 5 shots into a 3” Bullseye at 25 feet.

With what you have listed, the GP100 hands down. I no longer have 1 but have had 3 over the years. They all were pretty accurate with factory ammo and very accurate hand loaded with 2400 and Hornady 158gr hollow points and many others. I always loaded stout loads, they took a beating over many years without a single problem.

Ruger GP100 (.357-38)-Built like a tanks, same weight as a tank.
Kimber Crimson (.45) A lot of MIM parts and plastic main spring housing. MIM parts break easier than actual steel. I own a Kimber Match Target in 9mm. I Love 1911's in 9mm. A joy to shoot. Very accurate and easy to control. I have 1911's in 45, 40 and three in 9 mm.. I may get another one. These are the guns I shoot the most.
Beretta 92F (9mm) Oh good lord the trigger PULL........ I have two of these and have not fired them in over 20 years.
Ruger P85 (9mm) Rather block design not a very nice trigger either.
Ruger 93DC (9mm) Never been around one.
colt cobra (38) Never been around one. Colts in general ore over priced for what you get.


With out knowing your intent it is not an easy question to answer. I personally don't care for anything on your list. I am a retired police officer and pistol shooter. I will give you an alternative list of good guns.

S&W M&P
Springfield XDM
Springfield 1911
S&W 1911 Pro 9mm
Les Bear Premier II in 9mm (Threw this one in here as it is a fantastic gun. Expensive yes. Worth it,,, YES..I have one in 45. Next one will be in 9mm)

What DirtySteve says. Also, you are the one who ultimately has to decide on semi-auto or wheel gun. They each function totally different. There are those who cannot manipulate semi-autos.
Take a class or go to the range w/ a friend. You will learn more about what you need to know to make your decision, than anyone here can tell you.

Inside a barn, shotgun and a pallet of shells = Me having a hard time getting wood... :/
Strong or weak hand 1911A1.... decent at times.
Luv them Browning via Colt products.

Mama's carry. Its oh my God accurate! I did have an issue with a TLEll.
Kimber decided to lengthen the slide lock, every time you fired it it would hold slide back failing to cycle another round.
1 phone call and a new one in the mail in 2 days.

The gp for the revolver and the 92 for the auto if this is the only list. I carry a kimber tle2 quite a bit. Its uber reliable or i wouldnt carry it.

Glock..... Period.... Shoot few thousand round courses.....
The ones who disagree have never done it... Won't respond after this because there's no reason to.... But there's some damn good advice posted here especially on revolver , the 686 is my first duty gun and will not let you down.... But for people that actually shoot automatic and shoot thousands and thousands of rounds it's the Glock....

Edit... Try and find a 686 before the sell out... Expensive yes , worth it ohh hell yes.....

Tell us what you intend to do with the pistol and we can give you a more accurate answer. If it absolutely, positively needs to go bang first time, every time. Choose either a revolver or a Glock. As a retired active LEO and firearms instructor of 30 years the choice is just that simple for me.
