6BRA load data

Getting ready for a match in Florida! Lederer Barrel, with 30.5 grains of H4895 Shooting the 105 Gungnirs. Temp was around 40 degrees and windy. I was ecstatic how the gun preformed. That’s 3 shots at 100 yards.

Lederer barrel - check, that's what I'm shooting
30.5g H4895 - check, that's my load too
105 Gungnirs - ahhh, that's what I'm missing

oh, and maybe have Bart come pull the trigger for me too

I tried 8208 and 104 BIBs in my 7.83 twist Brux today at 300 yards..started at 30 and at 31.2 it looked pretty good 3 shot groups..chronos 2928..more tests latter.IMG_20190202_150436_803.jpg

Tried a new load with Berger 108BT
30.5 H-4895, BR4, jam .007, 2930 fps in a 27"
Chanlynn barrel (left twist) 2" vertical at 850
I've been shooting 105 Hybrids with good results and a little bit faster but, these will shoot inside of them.

My new 6mm BR-A has a Panda action, a Brux 30” 7.83:1 barrel, with a Wheeler 6BRA No.1 Reamer from JGS.

I have not done much load development as my next batch of bullets will be the Berger 108 gr BT Target, and I will use the once-fired brass for that.

In the meantime, I have been using both Hydro-Formed brass (from DJ’s) and Fire-Forming myself with Berger 105 gr Hybrids, and both are doing very well.

With the Hydro-Formed brass, 31.2 gr of Varget, CCI 450’s, and 0.015” jump, the 5-round 600-yd groups are about 1.5”.
At 1,115 yards yesterday, I could consistently strike a six-inch diameter red plate. I was happy. (BTW, muzzled speed was 2920 fps.)

I have also been shooting the Lapua 6mm BR brass for fire-forming, and have been pleasantly surprised. I have to jam the bullets about 0.015” to insure that the CCI 450’s go off. Using 30.00 gr of Varget has resulted in very small groups. Speed is 2850 fps.

Here is an example of the BR fire-forming int BR-A. After I shot these 10 rounds, I quit to save the ammo for the next 600-yard match, but due to inclement weather I have not been able to shoot a match yet. The first two shots, at the bottom of the X-ring, where sighters, and I adjusted elevation from that.
(Yes, as I wrote on the target, the temperature to start was 11° and 15° when done about an hour later.)

I think the 0.69" (0.114 moa) vertical for 8 rounds is pretty good. Even including the first two rounds before I adjusted elevation, 2.09" is not bad.

Reading through this thread - There seemed to be overwhelming support of H4895 for the BRA then rumblings of inconsistencies and issues with it. Is H4895/cci 450 still deemed the top choice of powder for the cartridge?

I opend a new lot of H4895 recently and saw 100 fps increase in velocity over the previous lot.

Interestingly, I’m still in an accurate node with my 6BRA. Still shooting 5 shot groups in the 1’s and 2’s at 200 yards and cleaning targets at 600 yards in F Class

Also using it in my .308 and am now seeing pressure signs with my 185 Hybrid loads where there wasn’t any from previous lot. It’s also keeping its accuracy but I’m going to have to work up a new load for it.

First time for me to see this much lot to lot variation

I have a good load with rl-15, h4895, and varget. The rl15 load had the smallest group at 1k on paper, varget second smallest. H4895 was pretty consistent 6" gun. I've started doing more so its not a fair shake, but I dont think you can go wrong with any of those powder options. I tried/use all 3 powders, with 3 different bullets, and 3 different primers, in 4 different barrels, and they all work. Just require me to do my part, which I am working on.

I try to buy 8# jugs (usually several of the same lot if I can) to not have to deal with lot to lot variations. I think with any powder you're going to get that to some degree. If you change any one component, you've got to test it.

alex m, nice fire form target, i fire formed my lapua br brass to bra last season with 30.9 gr varget pushing 105 berg hyb's and cci450 primers, i jammed em .010". my fps is right at 2900 or 2910, and i believe im shooting same barrel as yours, sure is fun shooting a capable rig!!

Just started to load for my bra. Fire forming and break in. 101 rounds done. Lone peak action, benchmark 26” 1:7.75. Started with 30.5 Varget under Berger 105 hybrids. CCI 450’s. Still a work in progress but getting there. Velocity avg was 2830 out of ten random shots of the lot. C685978B-F3A4-447D-9E28-46334F40D428.jpeg

Not what my dasher can do but still early in the process. Jammed for these. Will back off on depth and charge to start playing with. Funny how this “hobby” turns into work to get where you want to be. Lol

Tweaked my load a bit and was rewarded last month with a clean in all three F Class matches at 600 yards. 600-36X

30.8g H4895
108g Berger BT
BR4 primer
2,920 fps, ES 17, SD 7

First target of the day, 200 - 14X
