Greens Supply

This morning was told another Shooting Industry wholesale supply was closing its doors. The Shooting industry as a whole is hurting. THe Shooting Sports are "aging out". Less shooters, Less hunting. Time will only tell but I would say it doesn't look good for the Shooting Sports.

Not just the shooting sport but damn near everything. My son's passion is amateur radio (4 years ago he was second Vice President of the ARRL), the same thing is happening there. Kids aren't interested, they have to pass exams to earn their privileges. Same thing in Boy Scouts (20+ years with the son), kids are too lazy to earn rank and badges but they are at the head of the line for an overnighter in the field. I overheard several scouts complaining about, according to them, the fact that Albuquerque was a boring city, nothing to do. I offered up 15-20 possibilities. Their reply boiled down to the fact that they would have to do something, put a bit of effort into it. Most kids today are just lazy. Guess how well they are going to do later in life, I'd like to be a fly on that wall.

From the FWIW Dept....If you think about it for a minute , don't blame the kids , really . Blame their useless , worthless-assed parents . Buy them video games , super-sized Hi-Def T.V's , phones at age 9 , and computers …. Anybody here remember 8 - 9 - 10 years of age ? I can still hear Mom when I'd whine their was nothin to do . "Get your ass outside , and find something to do . Just don't burn down the house ".
As long as kids aren't "Bothering" Mom & Dad , life's good . Blame the lazy parents , who are to "busy" with FB , Insta-gram , and the social platforms . The "ME FIRST" generation got older , had kids , and we are seeing the results . Good Grief ! I'm startin to sound like my Dad . Getting old S-U-C-K-S ! :(

Give it another 18 months and things might turn around.

I’m 50 and have a 17 year old that i have to brag on. Does he have his “lazy” moments ? Sure but i brush that off to teenager. When you say thank you to him he says you are welcome and not - “ no problem” . He plays baseball and committed to college as a sophomore and works hard - really hard and keeps his grades up. Has a part time job when baseball allows and doesn’t complain AND says thanks for everything we do for him. As for some of his buddies - well one word comes to mind Entitled and i just hate to see where we are headed. I’m sure there will be an eye opener for kids one day but i work with a few of the younger new hires and when they don’t show up for work and don’t call in and they get tick mark and lose their bonus over it they act shocked - i just have to laugh

I believe the competitive shooting sports are experiencing the same issues as golf is. Both sports require a significant time investment. It takes 3 to 4 hours to play 18 holes of golf, it takes most of a day to shoot an "across the course" high-power match, neither of which you will do well if you haven't invested 100s more hours of practice. Fewer and fewer people are willing to do anything that requires serious effort to be proficient. This seem generational, the result of a society that gives trophies for participation. But maybe it's just evolutionary.

You should be proud of your son and of yourselves for raising him to be be the good person he is!
I just had to respond, because that “no problem “ comment is my biggest pet peeve.

Oh me - I'm glad i am not the only one that notices and hates the "no problem" comment. Where did it come from who phrased it ? My wife said she doesn't think anything about it When teenager uses phrase - me i cringe but say nothing. When waiter waitress says my pleasure or you're welcome - they do get 20% plus

I like at a drive through where they are too lazy, rude or arrogant to say a simple "Thank You." I guess for them working so hard to put some burgers and fries in a damn bag is terrible hard work,Then glare at you as you pay them and pretty much throw your change and food at you as you have just put them out. It's getting fun telling them "Sure as Hell hard for you to say Thank You isn't it " and watch the stupid look on their face as they can't figure it out. I don't care much for the younger generation but there are exceptions. Old Grouchy Man rant over..

I have to agree...somewhat. Parents use electronics to babysit there kids so they don't have to spend time with them. Not all parents. This isn't a blanket statement but applies to ALOT of parents. They killing there own kids in the long run. Back to the original thread topic...Green Supply is where I do most of my shopping but haven't heard about them closing up shop. Even emailed them about it but no response. Website still functional tho.

Not throwing rocks, but have you ever contacted the 4-H or FFA or SCTP in your part of the world? 4-H offers kids air rifle, rimfire rifle, shotgun and archery. Some of the ones around here go as far as 3 gun and even some target rifle sports.
I figure most on here are target rifle folks. Check around and see if the local 4-H needs some adult leaders. Yes, you'll have to go through their training to be certified and that takes time and maybe some $$ but to help the future of any of the shooting sports would be worth it, don't you think?

After you meet some of the kids involved, some as young as 10 years old, you'll see there are definitely some that have been raised right. And it is refreshing and gives hope.

Great program! I was pretty involved in the 4-H shooting sports program in the 90's with the youngest daughter. Some seriously good shooters come out of the program, some continue to compete in their adult years.

Just wanted to correct any wrong information here about Green Supply. They are not closing but restructured there company. Talked to a rep today who said it's a rumor that started but is incorrect.
